The Toronto Maple Leafs are rumoured to be shopping defenceman Luke Schenn to the Edmonton Oilers as part of a deal where both teams would swap 1st-round draft picks in this month's NHL Draft, according to Elliotte Friedman of CBC Sports.
Don't shoot the messenger. Just saw it on the Leafs board.

There would have to be a ton of +++++ added to Schenn in order to score the 1st overall

Is this basically the same as when Burke was shopping Schenn and the 7th for the 1st overall pick and a chance at Tavares and he got laughed at?

Who caaaaaaares?

If the Leafs want to move from 5th to 1st it will be Gardiner, not Schenn going the other way. And probably the Leafs 2nd rounder as well.

Jamin 06-11-2012 05:01 PM

Ill be the first to say less then zero interest in Schenn. Wont beat out Whitney or Schultz and the Smid-Petry pairing was dynamite last year.

If I was the gm a 3rd pairing dman would not be my price for moving down to 5th

Minimalist* 06-11-2012 05:02 PM

The difference between 1st and 5th is more than Schenn.

I'm not even certain Tambo takes the offer if it's Gardiner and 1st overall.

Lion 06-11-2012 05:03 PM

5th, Gardiner and Schenn for 1st :)

if you think Schenn is a 3rd paring D you don't watch him enough. Should he be enough to get the #1 pick/ absolutely not but he'd be in your top 4 without question

For the sake of some kind of original discussion could we possibly change the title to 'Value of: Luke Schenn to Edmonton'?

I feel like the whole TOR 5th OVR + for EDM 1st OVR has been done to death.

AmericanRocket91 06-11-2012 05:05 PM

Schenn + 5th + top/middle level prospect would get it done I'd imagine.

StrongIslanders90 06-11-2012 05:06 PM

Its going to be funny when Yakupov turns out to not even be the 5th best player from this draft....

SpezDispenser 06-11-2012 05:07 PM

Schenn, Colbourne + 5th overall for the 1st overall. Easy.

Erza Scarlet 06-11-2012 05:08 PM

might as well add.

And I do believe the Oilers like Schenn and have discussed his availability before. But I just can't see it happening for the first-overall selection. That's not enough. It'll be interesting, though, to see how many teams think Schenn will be better off outside Toronto. Sounds like the Maple Leafs are aware of that and, as a result, ask for a lot in return.

Run705 06-11-2012 05:08 PM

Schenn and 5th sounds like good value for 1st overall.

Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather have Gardiner,Schenn and Gal/Grigorenko over Yakupov.

Luck 6 06-11-2012 05:09 PM

I'll bet they are ;)

I wonder what kind of package it would take for that swap to occur. I'd have to think Edmonton would ask for the 5th and Gardiner, even if they had to add something going back.

TO TOR
1st overall
MPS or Gagner

TO EDM
5th overall
Gardiner

Taken way out of context from Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts column, where Friedman himself refutes the offer.

There are rumblings that Toronto will offer Luke Schenn to Edmonton for a swap of first-rounders. No doubt Brian Burke would like to make a huge draft splash. He loves the big stage. As would I and I'm a habs fan.

2 top 4 dman and a number 1/ 2 centre (or bust) for a top line, potential franchise winger (or bust) is too much to give, as I don't think Yakupov will be a franchise winger.

DropIt 06-11-2012 05:11 PM

this is about as bad as when Tambellini offered Coglianno for Florida's top ten pick

I wouldn't trade the first overall alone for the fifth overall and Gardiner

Pretty much this.

JawandaPuck 06-11-2012 05:13 PM

Gardiner with the TOR 5th for the 1st almost certainly guarantees EDM bags UFA-to-be Justin Schultz for the blueline as well.

LOL. Really, that's actually happened? Damn that's bad - no matter when it was offered.

Schenn + 5th overall

for

JvR + 20th overall + Matt Read + 2012 1st/2nd

TheLeastOfTheBunch 06-11-2012 05:14 PM

Gardiner + 5th doesn't make much sense from Leafs POV, but it would probably take more than just Schenn along with the 5th OV to move up to Yakupov territory.

xtra 06-11-2012 05:14 PM

Good luck Oilers fans....your soon going to be told that Schenn is worth more than jesus and Gardiner is untouchable....god speed oiler fans
