Parenteau NOT Retained, Signed with Avs
Making the rounds in the tweet world that the NYI are not likely to re-sign the PAP. Mods, not sure if this classifies as a "source" or not, but it feels legit.
I have mixed feelings. My rage is in that they got nothing for him when they could have. It's maybe Wang saving a dollar in a lock-out summer, but either way, it's very poor asset management from a team with few assets and even fewer opportunities. ---- HabsRumorSource @HabsRumorSource Look for #habs to pursue PA Parenteau now that it's been reported the Isles likely won't keep him. ---- Andrew Allsman @STLBluesWriter RT @NHLwiki According to Elliotte Friedman, The #Isles are unlikely to sign P.A.Parenteau. He had 67 points playing with John Tavares. ---- NHLwiki @NHLwiki #NHL *Rumor*- According to Elliotte Friedman, The #Isles are unlikely to sign P.A.Parenteau. He had 67 points playing with John Tavares. ---- Chris Botta @ChrisBottaNHL If PA Parenteau was worried about the unknown of free agency, that smile has to be back after learning David Jones got 16 for 4. |
It looks like it all came from Friedman. Honestly, I can't imagine how she could ever find that out with SBS. Pure speculation once again results in a media spasm.

No surprise he wants to test the market, but with hindsight he really should've been traded at the deadline. Presumably there were no good offers but it's still better than nothing. He'll sign with the Habs
|
I said when the news was posted 1-2 days ago, that it was lousy asset management by Snow.
It sounds like they have made their best offer and Parenteau wants more. I don't blame him for wanting a huge payday, but I do blame Snow for not putting this offer on the table, before the trade deadline.Snow and Parenteau's reps had talks before the trade deadline. He had to have had some idea what Parenteau would ask for. A Sens poster, said Snow had shopped Parenteau to the Sens at the trade dealine.Snow reportedly asked for Stone+1st rounder. The Sens refused. So we have Snow willing to move Parenteau, but refusing to lower his trade demand. |

The comments from that question and answer session, were posted on this boards about 2 days ago. http://puckbuddys.com/2012/06/07/q-a...gm-garth-snow/ The fan lamented PA Parenteau becoming UFA. It was noted PA had a respectable (my wording, not the GMs, based on what was relayed to me) offer and chose to test the market. |

Or maybe he saw Stone as future trade bait. |

Yes he probably considered him a good winger for Tavares but even then we could have added to PA to get a proven winger/player. |

Snow was also supposedly asking for the Sens 1st rounder. |
This is so typical of Snow. This is not a second guess so I dont want to hear anyone b**** about it. This was a first guess, you can go through my post history and see for yourself.
I said from the start to trade PA at the deadline. First off PA is never going to be worth the contract he gets. Im sure he will be overpaid. I knew the Isles were going to have to pay PA way over his value to retain him. I said from the start PA is not a guy you overpay for. Infact I wanted a different type of player on this team instead of PA. We have to get bigger and more physical on our first 2 lines and re-singing PA does not do that. We have enough guys on this team that have NO size, dont hit or play physical. Im actually not bummed he is not comming back. Im just real pissed Garth Snow has once again proved the idiot he really is again with just poor asset management once again by Snow Job. |
Another thing to remember before Islanders fans start flipping out on this board just remember what some of you said last year about PA.
He was the whipping boy for the posters on this site giving him names like PA-penis pump or Pap smear ect. I am in a rage that about the whole situation, not so much about PA leaving but the way Snow handled this. He should have been traded. |
some of you really make me laugh.
So what would have been a "good" trade at the deadline for PA? and was that available? Also, my memory is a little hazy but wasnt there still a little bit of a shot come deadline time for the playoffs and trading away PA for nothing would have shown the team and the fans that they gave up? Does anyone honestly feel that PA is worth 3-4 yrs at 4mil per if not more? |

2. We have no cap issues, so who cares what he makes. |

Is PA Parenteau really worth 4 million?
I understand he had a career-year, but so did Grabner before he was resigned. Use that money on the "top 4" defenseman Garth is supposedly interested in. On another note, does the PA contract thing affect our draft selection? |

"Does anyone honestly feel that PA is worth 3-4 yrs at 4mil per if not more" No , Im not giving PA that kind of money. He put up one good year and Im not overpaying for a player like PA. |

NOOOOOO. He is not worth it. PA had a career year and will not be worth the contract he sings. He should have been traded, PA is not the type of player you overpay for. I wanted PA traded at the deadline and thats not a second guess. |

They have a set amount their owner wants them to spend. Look.I'll be as pissed as anyone if Parenteau leaves and the isles don't bring in a vet to replace him,use the salary they were offering Parenteau on say Huselius,Penner or Andrei Kostitsyn. |
gheez , I cant wait until july 1 so we can put this to bed.

PA is a closed friend of David Desharnais and the Habs are desperately looking for francophone players. It's the kind of team to give ridiculous contracts. PA is a goner for sure.
|
I think PA is going to 4-5 years and $4.5-5M/per. It won't be in an Isles jersey, I've thought that ever since the trade deadline.
|
I think we were like 6 points out of the playoffs at the deadline or something like that and PA was playing well....i too think he should have been traded, but you cant sit here and take every ******* word on the internet as gospel. I wouldnt have traded him for a crappy pick, certainly not for another ****** second rounder. If that was all snow could get for him, then im glad he held on to him. We'll never know what the exact offers were, so all this is blather
