Parise said it's possible he'll re-sign before July 1. Obviously, have to wait to see what happens.
Looks like he wants to stay in Jersey. I think he just wants security; both contract and franchise wise.

Reaper45 06-13-2012 11:56 AM

Come to L.A. Zach.

Even if he re-signs with the Devils, I hope it's after UFA starts, otherwise it's going to be real boring on July 1st

Jerzey Devil 06-13-2012 12:00 PM

He's the Captain of the team, plays on the 1st line, the team just went the Cup finals, and they have a pretty decent pool of young talent.

Unless someone offers him a ridiculous contract I just don't see why he'd leave. And that's not just wishful thinking from a fanboy, it's just what makes sense to me.

Roo Mad Bro 06-13-2012 12:00 PM

lol'd when he came out and said that there was no way he'd play for the Rangers.

Everyone will be saying that except for fans of the team he does sign with (hopefully us).

If after all this, he doesn't re-sign with the Devils, I sure as hell won't be saying I didn't want him back anyway. That would be outrageously dishonest. I very much want him back.

Saugus 06-13-2012 12:16 PM

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice

Parise on being a Devil: "This is a great place to play and I love playing here. I love being here.”

zombi 06-13-2012 12:16 PM

Guys, he was interviewed at the team picture event. Do you really think he would have said that he wanted to become a free agent in front of his teammates and the NJ media?

There was absolutely no way he would give an honest answer when put in that situation. Notice how he "wants to come back", not "I'll definitely be back, Don't worry".

Same. He is a ferocious forechecker and excellent defensively. This postseason proved to me that he can be a good captain, too.

Nope, that's what he said to a few of the 500ish fans that waited in the rain outside The Rock yesterday to welcome them back, when they asked him to come back.

rynryn 06-13-2012 12:23 PM

has this ever happened before: a player states publicly he wants to come back to the team he's played for then leaves during free agency. That ever happened before?

Again, given the situation, what would you expect him to say?

He will be back at least 3 times next season wearing a Rangers sweater. :sarcasm:

Back when he was answering questions about it during the season, he said he'd like to resign and that it was the organization that had not approached him.

Now, he's much more open about it and blunt. But, by all means, if it keeps your hopes up.

IslesBeBack* 06-13-2012 12:27 PM

His response on joining the Rangers: "NO WAY!"

lol. Looks like a no go for the Rangers.

I can't think of a specific example, but I'm sure it has.

It's not on Parise at this point, unless he's being extremely disingenuous.

It's a matter of whether the Devils can afford his big contract.

He'll be under a lot of pressure from the players union to sign a contract worthy of the top forward free agent. Look at Richards last year. Everyone knew he wanted to sign with the Rangers and Torts, but he didn't really take a discount. I suspect that's because of his responsibilities as a union member.

Oh it does, don't worry. ;)

I'm just saying, we've seen this situation soooo many times before. Anytime there is an upcoming big name UFA, they typically brush off rumors of them leaving their current organization until it get's closer to July.

Nothing.

He should say nothing if he does't plan on being back.

Ziggy Stardust 06-13-2012 12:35 PM

Parise should come to LA. That way the Kings can have a line of forwards all selected in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft with Parise-Richards-Carter. And I'd say a Parise signing would increase the likelihood of a repeat and for Parise to get his name on the Cup.

Don't bother. Just look at the location of the poster you're replying to.

If the finances are set and Parise wants a cap hit that makes sense (aka around 7 million), then he's back in NJ next year, no doubt. Still a few questions, but it's looking good.

It happens all the time, but when other teams start throwing large amounts of money their way, they get greedy and leave.

Example: Anton Volchenkov
