Admirals

Why 2 teams teams with the same name??

AdmiralsFan24 06-13-2012 07:15 PM

Milwaukee was part of the old IHL before it folded in 2001. Six teams from that league (Milwaukee Admirals, Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins, Houston Aeros, Manitoba Moose and Utah Grizzlies) went on to join the AHL. So they just let both teams keep their names.

The Canadian Football League had the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Saskatchewan Roughriders when they had 9 teams. At least the AHL has 30 teams. Go Admirals!

Too bad Milwaukee missed a golden opportunity to be named the Maytags instead. :sarcasm:

And soon to have the Mizzou Tigers, too.

.... and they have the Georgia Bulldogs and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, too.

Not an imaginative bunch, I guess....

Tigers is the most popular US college mascot name. Missouri, Memphis, Clemson, RIT, Princeton, Colorado College and Grambling. I am sure that there are many more.

All those teams were named before there was such a thing as conferences.

Texas Southern, Towson, and Pacific are three more. If someone bet me there was 40 of them I'd likely take the over. ;)

They're named after the Admiral-brand of electrical appliances, not the naval rank.

O god that's even worse...

Hence the Maytag "joke!"

They should just have a front-loading washing machine as the logo on their sweaters.
