What's going on with the Jets ? I hear from a player on Winnipeg that Kane doesn't want to negotiate a new deal ?

Renaud P Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS

Kane has no arbitration rights, he'll get a QO from the Jets, scored 30 goals...can he be traded ?

boredmale 06-15-2012 08:59 PM

As long as he wants to play hockey that's all that counts.

1. I think you meant "sign" with the Jets--

EDIT: Beaten to it.

2. This board is going to explode in 3...2...1...

We anticipated all of this in the earlier Columbus-Winnipeg thread.

Columbus sends the #2 overall to the Jets for Kane. The Jets draft Galchenyuk.

See, easy as that.

Congo Jack 06-15-2012 09:00 PM

Are the Jets doing a musical number? Maybe he just doesn't have a good singing voice.

TheHudlinator 06-15-2012 09:00 PM

Don't blame him they couldn't carry a tone with a bucket

dredeye 06-15-2012 09:01 PM

I'm not really sure why the jets would even want him singing. He's likely a much better hockey player

Huffer 06-15-2012 09:01 PM

Not worried about Kane until he gets closer to UFA status. Until then the organization holds the cards.

Billy Mays Here 06-15-2012 09:02 PM

He'll re-sign there. I'm not worried about it.

Captain Hook 06-15-2012 09:03 PM

He doesn't have much leverage and I doubt they'd trade him considering how important he is to their team.

I'd offer Jordan Staal for him. I have my doubts Staal will want to sign there either but I'd give the Jets permission to speak with him and his agent and if they can work out an extension then we'd have a deal.

OneSharpMarble 06-15-2012 09:04 PM

Wow terrible loss for Winnipeg if true but every team in the league will be throwing cash at the kid.

Kloparren 06-15-2012 09:07 PM

I think there's a lot of BS coming out of their media. First with Burmistrov getting a KHL offer then Pavelec then this.

I'd love to play in a hockey city like Wpg tbh. And at least they don't have earthquakes like the west or hurricanes like Florida or as expensive as some of the bigger cities.

Brian Boyle 06-15-2012 09:13 PM

Do NOT start the "Winnipeg sucks" garbage. This is about Kane, not whether Montreal or Winnipeg is better.

The Rangers will be in on this. PERFECT fit.

Maybe something around Staal or Anisimov++? If they shop him, of course.

pld459666 06-15-2012 09:15 PM

Dylan McIlrath, Michael St. Croix, Brandon Dubinsky and the 2012 and 2013 1st rounders for Evander Kane

Both McIlrath and St. Croix are Winnipeg boys. Would have to think that they would both be stoked playing in front of family and friends on a regular basis.

AtlantaWhaler 06-15-2012 09:16 PM

I doubt this is true, but if it is, I see him moved at the draft.

If the rumor is true, it says a lot more about Kane than it does about Winnipeg as a city. And by extension it would say a lot about clueless HF posters.

I never said that nobody would ever want to play in Winnipeg, but that it will be a hard sell to free agents, restricted and unrestricted. Being the smallest (by population) market in the NHL and in a fairly undesirable climate, I would be very surprised if there were very many players who are dying to play in Manitoba.

That being said please don't take this as me bashing Winnipeg. I think it's a beautiful city and should definitely be an NHL market.

King Woodballs 06-15-2012 09:19 PM

I was waitong for this thread
Lavoie is pretty reliable... And thats what bugs me... This cant be far from the truth.

Evander Kane is now what Kreider might be someday...and he hasn't peaked yet.

To move him, I think they'd have to get another stud forward (prospect) back.

There's really nothing for the media to talk about right now. The playoffs are over, there's only so many mock drafts that can be done and free agency is still two weeks away. Then you get one of the best young players in the game who the media has already jumped on (they like to trash his character when none of it is proven) and who fans of every team would drool over if there were reports of him not wanting to return and you've got yourself the perfect recipe for a fabrication.

I'm predicting it now, 100% made up.

Devilspuppet666 06-15-2012 09:24 PM

im not surprised at all

Billy Mays Here 06-15-2012 09:26 PM

Garbage players for Kane proposals incoming.

No worries, but we all knew this was going to be the reaction from people the first time a Jets player wanted to move to a different city.

Ryan Suter put out a list with teams he is willing to go to (implying that there's a list of teams he doesn't want to go to). Does that mean that every team on his do not go to list are undesirable locations? Does it mean that every team in the East is an undesirable location?

No, it just means for that player that is how he feels.

Kloparren 06-15-2012 09:27 PM

Doesn't matter the source. I dunno what it is but there's just a lot of gossip there probably because of the team being in a hockey hotbed. I'm not sure where RDS picked up in but probably unlikely.

I don't see a Kyle Turris situation happening with Kane. He's been treated well and given good minutes plus PP time plus good linemates and his offensive game hasn't been stifled by the coach. Burmistrov might have a bit of reason for complaining but not Kane in terms of actual playing time or anything.

Winnipeg is the closest franchise to the Staal clan over in Thunder Bay.

E.Kane reminds me of Heatley.....

Kreider or Stepan would probably have to be in the deal. Why do Rangers fans throw Dubinsky, Anisimov, and McIlrath in every deal? No offense but none of those guys are that good.
