Jagr to Test Free Agency

Quote:

Jaromir Jagr enjoyed Phildadelphia, but plans on testing free agency. Also plans to change training to shed some lbs and get faster.

Really surprised by this, all speculation was he was close/had already signed with Philadelphia. Does this put Philadelphia into trade discussions now for a Top 6 forward?

IslesBeBack* 06-18-2012 11:23 AM

Jesus. This is exactly the type of guy Garth Snow will target as "a great top 6 forward in the NHL" and overpay him. Bank on it.

LatvianTwist 06-18-2012 11:23 AM

No, they've still got 8. Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, Schenn, Briere, van Riemsdyk.

Surprised he's not coming back, though.

anatsu 06-18-2012 11:24 AM

Edmonton Oilers. Yes. You heard it hear first.

Also, what if Jagr signs with the Penguins now..?

legendinblue 06-18-2012 11:24 AM

Didn't see that coming.

CF Punk 06-18-2012 11:24 AM

Pittsburgh says HELLO! :handclap:

But that's quite a gap on the 1st line now. Giroux and Jagr looked great together. I'd wager the Flyers will look at a guy to play on Giroux's RW and not disrupt the other two lines.

TOML 06-18-2012 11:25 AM

To Detroit?

I think that one guy named Nash would fit well with Giroux.. :sarcasm:

Thirty One 06-18-2012 11:25 AM

Jaromir Jagr, you are exhausting

Machinehead 06-18-2012 11:25 AM

Rangers should be all over this. The guy lifted our entire franchise out of hell single-handedly 6 seasons ago. We at least owe him an offer.

This is now the third time I've posted this in 5 minutes... but:

I don't believe that this means he is leaving the Flyers.

He's never been a player given to granting "hometown discounts."

I believe his came will present the Flyers with the opportunity to match the best offer on the table--since he genuinely did seem to enjoy his time here, and he's basically pencilled in on the top line--which is more than he'll get from most contending teams.

WJG 06-18-2012 11:27 AM

I doubt he leaves the Atlantic/Northeast.

Back to the Rangers to replace Gaborik is my guess.

1972 06-18-2012 11:30 AM

I thought he already re-signed

This was my first thought when I saw the headline.

This is also incredibly true. My money would be that he ends up on Philly, but if he leaves I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Detroit. I've seen it suggested here, but don't see the Rangers or Penguins in play. Both teams have moved on from him despite having some great moments/years in those places.

Ih8theislanders 06-18-2012 11:31 AM

Would love him back on the Rangers, don't think we'll go after him though.

MasterDecoy 06-18-2012 11:33 AM

he just can't help himself from trolling can he?

Marlo Stanfield 06-18-2012 11:34 AM

Hole on the 1st line RW spot? CUE THE RICK NASH RUMORS AGAIN! :sarcasm:

Schenn10 06-18-2012 11:34 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if a team offered him 5 million on a 1 year deal. The guy did score 54 points last year, and is still a big boost to the offense of any team he joins.

Kiss My Rask 06-18-2012 11:35 AM

Just the piece Boston is looking for. If not him than Doan or Whitney

Yeah it makes sense, the Rangers hate that stuff.

czechmate25 06-18-2012 11:36 AM

No way does Jagr return to NYC. Sather basically kicked him in the nuts by not offering him a 2 year deal back in '08 after all he did for the franchise, then turning around and giving Redden 6 mill a year after signing Gomez and Drury to those albatross contracts.

Additionally, him and Torts would be like oil and water. I'm sure most Ranger fans realize this and like most Jagr fans, I say no thanks.

If he doesn't return to Philly, which I hope he does, I'd like to see him in Chicago or Edmonton, but wouldn't be surprised to see him land in NJ b/c of his love for the Northeast.

When aren't the Flyers in on any trade/free agent discussions? :D

That's what they said about Gaborik. Torts got him to work.

Would love to see Jagr in Chicago, have been begging for it for 2 years, would be THE perfect fit for him in every way, players coach, wide open offense, nice spotlight but little pressure. I think he'd be a great mentor for Kane.
