EDIT:

It appears to be not related to the 11 news conference

Kevin Kurz ‏@KKurzCSN
TSN's Darren Dreger reporting the #SJSharks will announce three-year deal with Brad Stuart. We'll see if Doug Wilson confirms at 11 today.

I'll reserve my happiness until I find out the $$$$

Karl with a C 06-18-2012 12:13 PM

Will this be announced during today's media event?

I bet it will along with coaching decisions.

Le Rosbeef 06-18-2012 12:15 PM

Excellent. Wanted this to get done.

I'd temper your expectations though. He's a top 4 defenseman on any team in the league and I for one expect him to get paid like one.

sharski 06-18-2012 12:16 PM

in b4 3-year, $12 million deal with full NTC

SpinTheBlackCircle 06-18-2012 12:18 PM

I hope it's less than what Jackman just signed for.

Same here considering Stuart is 1.5 years older than Jackman and had a lot less leverage in the negotiations.

I'll go for $2.75 AAV with NMC

rt 06-18-2012 12:22 PM

Jackman just signed a 3yr, 9.5. Stuart's shouldn't be too far off that Mark.

Korolyuk15 06-18-2012 12:26 PM

Anything like 3 years at 3 or 3.5 sounds fine to me, as I think we can now assume Murray will be gone, so it is just a 1 mil per year increase, and there isn't any reason to suspect his play will rapidly decrease over the duration of the contract

good singing, to put it in perspective Colin "slow as a tugboat" White was paid 3 million last year...

USF Shark 06-18-2012 12:26 PM

3 years...hopefully 3 years for 8 mil. 3.5 mil first year, 2.5 second year and 2 last year

hockeyball 06-18-2012 12:33 PM

I'm expecting $3m on the nose. $4m would be his UFA value, and if DW pays close to that given the situation I am going to facepalm.

magic school bus 06-18-2012 12:34 PM

This got done too close to the Jackman announcement, so I don't think they knew his numbers yet. Stuart could be getting more than Jackman.

Interesting, Off the top of my head he made 1m from SJ. So I looked it up on cap geek and he had 2 11/12 contracts... one at 3M and one at 1M. Did he get bought out?

Yep. We picked him up after NJ bought him out.

Karl with a C 06-18-2012 12:52 PM

3 years, $10 million if I had to guess.

TheJuxtaposer 06-18-2012 12:56 PM

$9M or less and I'm a happy Sharks fan.

RainbowDash 06-18-2012 01:01 PM

Is this signing and media with the ownership going to be televised or streamed anywhere?

Rickety Cricket 06-18-2012 01:04 PM

Generally the Sharks don't release financials, so we have to wait a bit to hear the numbers.

Karl with a C 06-18-2012 01:05 PM

Via Pollack: "Jump on the news? @DarrenDreger of TSN reporting #Sjsharks have signed Stuart to a three-year deal. No $$$ yet."

Edit: just realized it referred to the old tweet, so no new info.

Barrie22 06-18-2012 01:05 PM

these are pretty telling stats i think for what the sharks are looking for.

Quote:

led the Red Wings in hits with 177 and was second in blocked shots with 115.

Stuart played more short-handed minutes than any other Red Wings defender this past season.

Yes and no. Didn't McLellan say last season they don't pay attention to hits?

wishman 06-18-2012 01:08 PM

C'mon this is friggin DW. When's the last time he signed a fellow defenseman to cheap terms (and no, White doesn't count!)? I still remember Huskins for $1.7M and Wallin for $2.5M. When those numbers came out everybody was ok because we thought it was total contract value not the average value over two years. Doh!

I expect no less than $3.5M and would not be surprised if its a tad over $4M.

Might have been just covering for the teams lack of hits last season.

Correction. Wallin was for $2.6Xm
