Craig Hartsburg, Keith Acton named to coaching staff

Craig signs on to become the next CBJ interim head coach....

:sarcasm:

Nordique 06-20-2012 08:48 AM

He certainly has experience.

ClevelandJacketFan 06-20-2012 08:49 AM

Wait, what's the difference between Associate and Assistant Coach?

True.... Brad Berry was a bit of an unknown with his stint here. Yeah, he'd had success with the blueliners in the AHL, but Hartsburg has NHL experience, which I like.

So, if we are sticking with this theme of an experienced staff, Hinote likely going back upstairs?

I'd say its schemantics. Hartsburg has way more experience than our head coach, I think thats why he's called an "associate" vs. "assistant"

HoldFast13 06-20-2012 08:58 AM

I just heard on XM radio. My stomach dropped for a second, they started it off by saying "We have an IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT from the Columbus Blue Jackets.......Craig Hartburg has been hired as associate coach." Oh....umm....cool.

KeithBWhittington 06-20-2012 09:11 AM

Acton aboard too....

Keith Acton on board as well.... that was fast.

So, now that we have some experience behind the bench, how about some in the front office?

Only if they can pass the Priest screener test.

Bringing in experience behind the bench is the first good move that anyone in this organization has made in a long time. Perhaps it signals some potential on the Davidson front? Say what you will about Richards, but on the surface, this seems like a solid move.

I tripped up on the "if you were at the mall with three girls scouts and lost one, what would you do?" question....

It ALMOST makes up for Howson not making any external contacts in the coaching search....

Still looking for second asst for SPR.

RDriesenUD 06-20-2012 09:26 AM

I don't really have much of an opinion on either of our assistant coaching hires other than I am glad they both have experience.

Scott Arniel is probably looking for work...

Nice a staff without training wheels.

Doesn't he have a gig back in the Vancouver farm system?

KeithBWhittington 06-20-2012 09:30 AM

Hinote probably definitely going back upstairs....

He was scouting for Vancouver during the playoffs with CBJ approval... Not sure if he's getting a full time gig with them again though.

If they liked his performance, he might be in line for a "permanent gig", I suppose. Talk about going back to square one.

 I'm sure he is.

The rumors with Arneil are that he's probably going back to coaching Vancouver's AHL team.

Zoo16 06-20-2012 09:53 AM

Hearing from the webs that Acton is not good with special teams, but I haven't found what his specific duties were. From Toronto's stats:
05-06: PP rank 2 (21.4) PK rank 24 (80)
06-07: PP rank 16 (17.7) PK rank 27 (78.5)
07-08: PP rank 15 (17.8) PK rank 29 (78.1)
08-09: PP rank 16 (18.8) PK rank 30 (74.7)
09-10: PP rank 30 (14.0) PK rank 30 (74.6)
10-11: PP rank 22 (16.0) PK rank 28 (77.4)
11-12: PP rank 10 (18.4) PK rank 28 (77.3)

blahblah 06-20-2012 09:54 AM

Looks all fine to me.
