2012 NHL Entry Draft

Per Langway, the Caps have the following picks:

1st WAS, 11 - Filip Forsberg
1st WAS, 16
2nd BOS, 54 (Varlamov trade)
3rd WAS, 77
4th WPG, 100 (Fehr trade)
4th WAS, 107
5th WAS, 137
6th WAS, 167
7th CGY, 195 (Seabrook trade)
7th WAS, 197
7th PIT, 203 (Vokoun trade)

The Caps say they like this draft, damn near everyone else doesn't. Let the mayhem commence.

I'll be out, but checking this thread on my phone for updates.

discobob 06-22-2012 07:34 AM

Pretty excited about tonight - with 11 picks, we have the possibility of really restocking the cupboard...

- I'm really hoping for Grigorienko to fall into the Caps lap....I'd be drooling about the possibility of pairing him with Kuznetsov in 2-3 years

strungout 06-22-2012 07:45 AM

Now that I have the NHL Network, I might just have to watch this crap tonight.

strungout 06-22-2012 07:53 AM

Ah, well considering its on NBC Sports, I could watch it anyways. Whatever.

Trade something.

Langway 06-22-2012 08:00 AM

Just ****ing win.

pman25 06-22-2012 08:04 AM

**** it, lets get rick nash, keith yandle, and bobby ryan!

RandyHolt 06-22-2012 08:07 AM

We do have a great chance to restock. He has plenty of ammo to get his guy.

I want a center - you can never have too many strong centers. I know BPA is the SOP but if the difference in grades that dictates who is "best" is minuscule, targeting positions of need is something I want George to go for.

Package the lucky 7's to move up... ok maybe one spot in the 6th.

ColincampbellOscopy 06-22-2012 08:09 AM

If they actually make all of these picks, i'll be all like "I can't believe they made all these picks."

pman25 06-22-2012 08:16 AM

I have a feeling we may get a "G"

Grigorenko, Girgensons, Gaunce, Galchenyuk (unlikely)

And they're all centers!

Carlzner 06-22-2012 08:34 AM

Gaksa.

Duh, GMGM drafts a Goalie every year. :sarcasm:

Ha, I had the same reaction to their comments, typical Caps, but the extra picks do offer some flexibility to trade up or down, as wanted.

One thing I'd add, as it relates to trading: 2013 draft picks - Caps have own picks Rounds 1-6
7th: Conditionally traded to Nashville if Caps sign Taylor Stefishen by June 1, 2012 (now 2013) deadline is my understanding

Nothin but G thangs baby. It would blow my mind if we got Galchenyuk somehow. The expectations in Toronto may ruin him.

Jon Gillies? I imagine we do pick a goaltender though, it's a good strategy to draft one every year

thewill78 06-22-2012 09:16 AM

So what are the odds we make a trade for a 2C tn?:)

TheFountainhead 06-22-2012 09:22 AM

Faksa or Grigorenko with the 11th pick please.

Drake1588 06-22-2012 09:22 AM

I'm no scout and I haven't a clue how prospects stack up against one another. I'll defer to the recognized experts in print and on television, whose mocks appear to be all over the map outside the top five to eight or so.

GMGM does like to double down on the draft in years most others consider to be off years, though. I expect the Caps to make a lot of picks after dealing their first rounder last year.

CapitalsCupFantasy 06-22-2012 09:24 AM

The last few year I hoped for some significant noise from the Caps at the draft. Here's hoping this is finally the year they make a significant change in the makeup of the team. Probably just in for more disappointment.

RandyHolt 06-22-2012 09:35 AM

It would be nice to see him land a 2C now and take a C in the draft as well. We need help. We have younguns Sarge Green Orlov Carlson and Alzner on D. I see no inclination from him to ever move any of those 5. He must think we are basically set at D for the next 10 years.

Looking at George's failed 2nd rounders in recent years, I say package that at the first chance. Unless, all GM's have similar struggles.

**** is 2005 even reality?

CapitalsCupFantasy 06-22-2012 09:50 AM

Kinda hoping Dumba slides a little and we can jump into the top 10 to grab him using the two 2nds (in addition to 11 or 16).

Please McPhee, show some ability to craft an actual team, not a collection of individuals who crumble under pressure.
