Subban to Boston is, well, interesting.

Liberati0n* 06-22-2012 10:12 PM

@RH, based on my experience playing EHM, it's Vojtech Kucera I think.

caps4cup 06-22-2012 10:13 PM

Wilson wasn't a huge stretch either. I believe he was ranked higher than a guy like Gaunce who was an option at #16, and it's for a reason. He also was much higher in the final rankings than the mid term rankings. So obviously scouts think he has much more upside than he's shown, and he started to show it in the playoffs. Lets just hope he builds off that and turns this into a real nice pick!

discobob 06-22-2012 10:13 PM

How are all the Boston fans who twitter bombed Joel Ward's account after the game 7 winner going to react?

Cush 06-22-2012 10:14 PM

Watching the selection of Forsberg at washcaps.com. BMac mentions that Tom Wilson and another player went after Forsberg in pre-game warm ups at a U18 game last August

SimplySensational 06-22-2012 10:14 PM

Just saw that Tampa got Vasilevski.

GMGM really ****ed us by letting that happen.

RandyHolt 06-22-2012 10:14 PM

WRT the accidental tweet, is it safe to say the debate was TT vs Forsberg.

No, the tweet said #16. Given the scouts involved, the discussion was probably Forsberg vs. Faksa (think it was their CZE and SWE scouts).

Maybe George had a plan all along.

Wilson will run his arse if needed 4 years from now. Bookmark this post.

yes, he's been a scout with the Caps for more than a decade; Frantisek's brother; was scouting for the Caps when Frantisek was traded to Washington

artilector 06-22-2012 10:18 PM

Well, probably should ve taken TT or Maata, but the Caps do have some young player depth in those roles.. and all the good centers were taken, so while I don't expect much out of this guy Wilson (hello skating & finishing), I doubt that not having the other two guys will hurt the Caps much.

Caps will want to get more quality centers in the next drafts, but getting Ribeiro buys them time in that regard. Though trading Wideman/Vokoun at the deadline would've probably given enough assets to move up if necessary to get a guy like Faksa :sarcasm:

Anyway, Varlamov+Eakin for Ribeiro+Forsberg seems.. great!

Ah thanks, I thought it was 11 obviously.

Chimaera 06-22-2012 10:18 PM

Who knows who got screwed at this point. Still years away from mattering.

I think much of the struggle for the Caps with Forsberg is taking yet another player who wants to stay in Europe for a season or two.

Dr John Carlson 06-22-2012 10:19 PM

Schmaltz this early? Not good.

Mothra 06-22-2012 10:19 PM

Ive seen talk assuming the Caps meeting while on the clock was them not being prepared to see Forsberg there......isnt it just as possible that someone was making a serious offer for the pick? I would think, just like everyone else, they saw him falling. At some point before being on the clock you would think they would have already considered that he may be there

Ah his brother.

Hockey sure seems like a family affair.

Thanks to both of you. Is it time for dcamp yet!

Re: Vasilevskiy, not a big fan of taking goalies in the 1st round.. though yeah, would ve probably preferred him to Wilson, too. Although the real value would ve been to flip him down the line for another 1st rounder-ending-up-as-top-5-player ;)

caps4cup 06-22-2012 10:22 PM

I was ****ing pissed too. Thought for sure Pitt was gonna grab Forsberg, which it seems would've been a great fit tbh...

And it's good IMO that he fell because other teams were taking Defensemen. It might have been a bit worrisome if we saw some other forwards go before Forsberg.

Liberati0n* 06-22-2012 10:23 PM

Watched a video of Forsberg post-combine. Love the guy. His English is also excellent.

NobodyBeatsTheWiz 06-22-2012 10:24 PM

Get to the pick already.

Dr John Carlson 06-22-2012 10:24 PM

Canucks history lesson...

NobodyBeatsTheWiz 06-22-2012 10:24 PM

Good pick.
