Which center will have to go away?

In 2 or 3 years maximum, or maybe as soon as next year, the Habs will have the following centermen in their line-up :

Tomas Plekanec
David Desharnais
Lars Eller
Alex Galchenyuk
Louis Leblanc

While I think Leblanc can continue to be used as a winger, I don't think it's realistic to ask any of them to be our 4th line center. We could conclude than one of them will eventually have to be traded. Unless another one can be used as a winger?

Which player among them do you think will have to be moved, eventually?

gabbag00 06-22-2012 11:15 PM

If Eller improves next year, they will trade Plekanec.

LaurentHabs 06-22-2012 11:15 PM

Probably Plek. But by the time we get there, he will probably have 1-2 year left to his contract

Bud2790 06-22-2012 11:17 PM

What about Gomez :sarcasm:

That's funny. I never even thought about him when making the poll.

WeThreeKings 06-22-2012 11:22 PM

Let him develop first guys..

DD can easily be converted to wing and Leblanc isnt a center anymore.

Undertakerqc 06-22-2012 11:23 PM

Plekanec out, we need to get rid of the small softies... OUT PLEKY! :yo:

Crimson Skorpion 06-22-2012 11:26 PM

None. Let Galchenyuk develop.

Et le But 06-22-2012 11:28 PM

None.

Both LL and Desharnais can be converted to the wing, Galchenyuk isn't NHL ready yet.

Seriously, everyone complained about our C depth, now they are dying to trade Plekanec? Why?

I had trouble to reply to my own poll, but I have to agree that Plekanec could be moved eventually, when Galchenyuk becomes very good. In 2013-14, even without considering future UFA signing, we could have this kind of line-up :

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Gallagher - Galchenyuk - Gionta
Bournival - Eller - Leblanc
Conboy/Schultz - Engqvist/Nattinen - White/Palushaj

TennisMenace 06-22-2012 11:32 PM

Are you assuming Gomez is out?

Gal won't be in Montreal next year, so we won't make any moves soon.

When he does move up, hopefully Louie and Eller are studs so we won't need Pleks.

OP said 2-3 years. So Galchennyuk will be 20years old. You don't send these kind of player to Hamilton. You wanna develop him in your team.

Jake5 06-22-2012 11:33 PM

NONE

few years down the road (by this time Plek will be on a new, ideally cheaper contract or else he's out):

Gally- 1st line C
Eller- 2nd line C
Desharnais- top 6 winger
Plek- 3rd line C
Leblanc- bottom 6 winger

Patofqc is a given, but this is especially great coming from a poster named after Gomez.

Judging by your historical posting, I can only imagine what your opinion would be if his name was Plecanier...

EllertoKostitsynGoal 06-22-2012 11:37 PM

Galch isn't ready to be a complete top 6 center now. Might not even be ready for the NHL. Leblanc will be a winger.

We need talent, let's not trade players with talent just because.

Seriously, it's classic Habs board. Talk how we "need" a center, and then start complain we have two many of them. Why would we trade Plekanec when Galchenyuk isn't ready yet and Eller and Desharnais can't replace him as of now?

The Doors 06-22-2012 11:40 PM

Plekanec is our best forward... people who want to get rid of him because he's "old" (which is hilarious- he's not) are idiots. On any other team he'd get way more respect. Us Hab fans never know what we've got til it's gone.

Seth Rollins 06-22-2012 11:49 PM

Eller can play LW for sure, and I'm pretty sure Leblanc can play RW. Just use them as wingers down the road.

Hugo Sham 06-22-2012 11:50 PM

like DD but not sold on him long term. was owned by other teams top centers on road. curious to see what he does this year. i like his chemistry with maxpac but then watched plekanecs have a terrific game filling in for him on that line in that win vs canucks 4-1 in Vancouver. prefer to keep pleks, eller and galchenyuk

plekanecs would be a regular 70 point center on a good team. amazing how quickly people forget how solid he is - and he's signed to a friendly cap hit for the next 4 years
