2012 Draft - 2nd Pick: Mitch Moroz

Johnny Bravo 06-23-2012 09:09 AM

Dammit. I wanted Thrower

hodge7 06-23-2012 09:09 AM

TSN Scout Craig Button:
Mitchell is a player who enjoys the physical game. He will hit and punish opponents but is also willing and able to stand up to the challenges that comes with playing that particular style. He's a very good skater and can close on opponents very quickly and thus there is not a lot of wiggle room to avoid a check when he's on the ice. Because his skating is so good, he can play versus better players and make them uncomfortable. He plays in straight lines and is very effective along the boards. He doesn't run around without purpose and he is very effective in his approach. He has very good awareness playing and is capable of contributing in areas other than physical play. He battles for the puck, will go to the net and is a player who plays with energy and an undeniable spirit and determination. He gives players on the ice a certain comfort but only if you are on the same team. Playing versus him, is a challenge and not fun because he is focused on doing what he can to disrupt you and help his team win.

This is why they got him, isn't it?

Do not like this early.

Trade down if you're taking Moroz. Come on.

Don't like it. I think Moroz would've been available in the 3rd.

CantHaveTkachev 06-23-2012 09:10 AM

first impressions: bad pick

watching him in the playoffs for the Oil Kings he wasn't that good

oilers92 06-23-2012 09:10 AM

big guy can he get some offence going?

Shizuka 06-23-2012 09:11 AM

I also wanted Thrower so I'm disappointed. Moroz is a big body, anyone else want to chime in on what he's like?

Beerfish 06-23-2012 09:11 AM

Awful pick. Cam Abney type pick except this is a 2nd rounder :shakehead

Valic 06-23-2012 09:11 AM

Initial wtf moment.

ISS had Moroz ranked 170th. Central Scouting at 72nd. A bold pick. Like that.

Cerebral 06-23-2012 09:12 AM

Bleh, what a waste with an early second. This was essentially a first rounder and we threw it away on a Coke machine. I wouldn't have minded Moroz in the third round but there were so many quality prospects still available. This was a pick based purely on need.

Johnny Bravo 06-23-2012 09:12 AM

Once again, Stu's hard on for the Oil kings continue.....

nabob 06-23-2012 09:12 AM

In stu we trust? So many great picks left and they draft this plug.

Valic 06-23-2012 09:12 AM

I like Moroz. In the third or fourth. If someone else wanted him earlier go hard.

dustrock 06-23-2012 09:12 AM

gooilgo 06-23-2012 09:13 AM

A round too early. Would have been fine with him at the top of the 3rd.

Roof Daddy 06-23-2012 09:13 AM

Even if the Oil thought he wouldn't be there @ 62, at the most he was in the late 40-early 50 range (thus a trade up). Instead we use 32, practically a late 1st rder. WTF StuMac?????

Nail and Nuge 06-23-2012 09:14 AM

Boo. Do not like. With so many options this was a big reach.

Stu is losing some shine here.

Cerebral 06-23-2012 09:14 AM

Heh EVERY pick since ours is a player I would have rather selected than Moroz.

puckfan13 06-23-2012 09:14 AM

People said Tom Wilson had Lucic potential, but he scored 9 goals in a top-six role in Plymouth. Moroz scored 16 goals on the fourth line for the Oil Kings as a rookie and is an above average fighter. I'm not going to doubt this pick for now, he's competitive as hell and a great kid off the ice.

I honestly thought third round would be high for him after a nice season, but when you get to the second round the odds of getting a real NHL player goes to like 25% so if they saw him a lot and were that confident in Moroz's potential I will see this pick through for the time being.

Pelss, Maxwell, Rachinski and Peddle all leaving on forward is going to open a spot up in that top-9 for Moroz. Forwards next year will be MSC, Wruck, Lazar, Sammy, Ewanyk, Legault, Moroz, Foster as an overager and possibly two other overagers on forward since the D is pretty solidified.

MetaOil1993 06-23-2012 09:14 AM

Wow very suprised they took Moroz this early :amazed:, They really should have traded down I think he would have been there in the 3rd round, I really wanted Finn or Thrower.

CupofOil 06-23-2012 09:14 AM

Take him in the 3rd, why here? I don't get it, he's never going to be a top 9 player IMO.
You don't take that just outside of the 1st round.
