Safe pick. Not that exciting but as likely an NHLer you get at this point.

He was ranked in the ISS top 50 final rankings

Monctonscout 06-23-2012 10:10 AM

We could compare his game to Bournival, one of those solid depth guys on winning teams. Can chip in his share of goals but also do a lot of other things.

donghabs98 06-23-2012 10:10 AM

Follwed him for most of the season

pretty good pick for 94 overall

Never heard tell of Vail before but actually his stats aren't that bad. Close to a point a game in the O as 18 year old and a plus player

patches67 06-23-2012 10:17 AM

Watched him quite a bit here in Windsor.. not a flashy kid, but a hard worker.. Kinda like Gaunce, with better feet, similar to lesser offense, lesser on the d end.

Brady Vail: "A lot of people compare me to Ryan Kesler, the defensive side anyway and also the way I used my body."

WeThreeKings 06-23-2012 10:39 AM

According to THN:

After a disappointing start to his OHL career, Vail put himself in cpaable hands of Windsor trainer Joe Garland in the summer and the results were impressive.
Training alongside New Jersey Devils calder trophy candidate Adam Henrique and 2013 prospect Kerby Rychel, Vail was transformed. His point totals increased five-fold and he became highly effective in other aspects of the game.
"I really like him" said one scout. "To me hes a third liner in the NHL. He does the little things right that coaches love. You can match him up against a top line and he'll do the job."
A teen phenom who played in the USHL at 15 alongside teammate Nick Ebert, Vail has developed into the type of player a coach throws over the boards to a protect a one-goal lead with a minute to play.
He has also become an important penalty-killed for the squad, but still post decent offensive numbers.

He's from Florida?

Officially a Montreal Canadien!! Couldn't be happier @CanadiensMTL #habs

Great pick considering the high end ability of the other players selected. He's the kind of player that quietly helps a team win games. A necessary commodity on any successful team.

Bullsmith 06-23-2012 11:45 AM

Very solid draft. Really stocking a depleted prospect pool.

Freaky Habs Fan 06-23-2012 11:46 AM

I'm happy they took a safer pick. Collberg, Thrower, Bozon and Hudon are more boom or bust type of prospects.

Et le But 06-23-2012 11:49 AM

Has there ever been an NHLer from Florida?

WeThreeKings 06-23-2012 11:58 AM

Any chances he could come in with an offensive upside similar to Mike Richards?

No chance. And that's not a knock on Vail who was a super pick in the 4th. Richards was a 1st round pick though.

Should've clarified.. the 50 point Richards in LA.. not the offensive Richards from Philly

I know what you mean, but it's still interesting that the TSN top 60 profile described him as a generally safe pick, but with the potential to be more and thus a steal in the draft. Can't complain about that in a 4th round pick.

Great little piece, really nothing to lose with a 4th round pick in him especailly with the first 4 players the Habs drafted we could have taken a chance here
