Stick flex question for myself.

Hey all,

Quick question. I am looking at buying a Bauer one80 and a store close to me has one for 80 dollars, however its in a 77 flex. I am 6 feet tall and 220lbs. Do you think this stick will have too much flex? All my other sticks are 87 flex.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

77 could be too whippy for you.

But you could go there and give it a try first... And if you have the money to blow, I say why not give a new flex a try. Tried 3 different flexes before I settled.

If you use the search function, you will find an entire (very long) thread dedicated to this exact topic.

The short answer to your questions is that either, yes, it will be a problem, or, no, it won't be a problem. Depends on who is online. Whatever you do, remember to wear a cage and not just a half shield.

Probably a bit too whippy. If it was an equivalent Vapor stick (like an X50), I'd say you might be fine, but IMO Bauer Supreme sticks play very whippy. I always feel that Supremes play much whippier than Vapors, and whippier than most sticks on the market period (the only stick that has felt whippier for me relative to the flex rating than my Supreme sticks is my Base stick). Supremes have an "amplified mid kick," the stick is stiffer by the blade and softer by your bottom hand, with the result being that you REALLY feel the flex. I'm 6' 180 lbs, I cut down my sticks about 2.5-3", and while I like a 77 flex in Vapors (and in a number of other brands/lines), for me the 77 flex in Supreme sticks is too much whip, flexes too much on passes, and I feel like I lose power in shots. If you tend to like 87 flex sticks in most lines, I think you'll likely feel that a 77 flex Supreme is overly whippy.

It's all personal preference. If you've never used a whippy stick before, maybe you're actually a guy who likes huge whip and you just don't know it, in which case the stick could be great for you. But if you've used 75/77 flex sticks in the past, and generally prefer an 87 flex, then I'd stay away from a 77 flex Supreme.

To whippy. I am roughly the same size as you and I use a 100 flex. ||||||||||||||I believe a 77 is closer to a childrens stick.

Wow, little wonder they snap them like twigs if that's what they use.

Well.. how do you feel with your current 87flex sticks?

If you use a stick at your nose or taller bare feet, it will probably be too whippy. If it's close to your chin bare feet, it might work. It's personal preference but at your height/weight you'd be closer to 85 than 75 flex.

Frankie Spankie 06-25-2012 01:28 PM

It's totally preference. I'm 6'1" 170lbs (weak, I know :P) and use a 65 flex. I like the whippy feeling. It's a lot easier to lift the puck and get a lot of speed off a shot. Every one else in my leagues use at least 90 flex. I used to have them but tried out a whippy one just to try it. Let the stick do the work for you! ;)
