Kevin Devine (Buffalo Sabres)

“Austin is a defensive defenseman. He went through the draft last year, mainly because they had him playing forward a lot in Erie. This
year he was a little more comfortable playing for a good coach in Belleville. We think he’s got a chance because of his size; he played
tougher this year."

They are definitely drafting for size this year. This kid has monster size...already.

CowbellConray 06-23-2012 11:33 AM

Scored 26 points last year on the blueline for a Belleville team that wasnt known for scoring.

Cant go wrong with big size in the 7th

Mellifleur 06-23-2012 01:21 PM

whaaaa ??? he's 19 and already 234 at 6'4" ? did we slide into a football draft here ?? did the Bills get another pass rushing DE/LB ?

Buffalo87 06-24-2012 01:40 PM

Granted he is an overager, but those are pretty decent numbers for a stay at home dman on a team that doesn't score a lot. Even McNabb only had 36 points in his draft year.

The kid's a mammoth out there. I'm looking forward to catching a Bulls game or two to see what there is to see out of him.

Austin wears the 'A' and was the recipient of two year-end awards from his club -- Most Dedicated Player and Most Improved Player.

Don't be surprised if Austin's strong finish to the season earns him an invitation to the draft come June. Logging big minutes on the Belleville blueline, Austin's punishing physical game developed rapidly in the latter weeks of the regular season and into the playoffs. With size that can't be ignored and an offensive game that seemed to come to the surface and show some real promise as the season progressed, Austin has been a topic of discussion among scouts.

Bulls Coach and GM George Burnett added these bits on Austin's selection and his future role:
Quote:

"When I spoke with Brady today he was his usual self, thankful and low key," said Burnett over the phone. "He certainly deserved this today. After going through a season that was so up and down for us as a team, he was a guy who was always dedicated and never made excuses."

After being passed over in the 2011 NHL Draft, Austin made it his goal to hear his name called this time around. "I think that was a huge motivation for him," added Burnett. "He never moped around after going undrafted and he's a good example to those guys out there who think they only have one shot at this."

Austin's role will continue to be a big one on the Belleville blueline this coming season. "Brady is going to see a lot of minutes just as he did down the stretch last season," Burnett concluded. "He's a valuable guy for us and it's a pleasure to see him drafted this weekend."

I went to school with him and Justin Kea for a few years in high school so kind of cool to see them get drafted into the NHL. I knew they played junior but I never knew they got drafted the other day until my buddy told me.

For a linebacker, the kid can move. I watched a few Bulls games simply to watch Malc, and Austin was noticeable. Love that he wears a letter. Always a bonus in my eyes.

I had no idea Brady was even drafted this year until I saw him on the front page of today's local newspaper. While it says he was born in Lindsay, he is actually from Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Congrats on picking up this guy, as he has been fun to watch and is absolutely massive! Being a Leafs fan, it could be hard to watch him lay big hits on the blue & white.

I have actually seen Brady play a few times throughout the years as my him and my cousin have played for the same team growing until they were in their mid teens. Most recently I watched him when the Belleville Bulls came to Peterborough. The kid is a beast and when he had the puck, other players had a tough time knocking him away. I have a feeling that he will have a good career and I can't wait to see what he can do in the NHL if/when he gets a shot.
