Undrafted Players Going To Camps

I've heard that Spitfires Defenseman Brandon Devlin and Erie Otters Forward Dane Fox will be going to a New York Rangers Evaluation Camp. Matt Rupert will be going to the Leafs.

Any Rosters/Other Ramblings?

bruinsfan46 06-23-2012 05:53 PM

Fox and Rupert were the only ones I knew of. I'm most interested where Houser ends up.

Lux Aurumque* 06-23-2012 05:55 PM

Does anyone know if Rhett Rachinski is going anywhere? He had an awesome year for the Oil Kings. He doesn't have a ton of skill, but his heart makes up for it. I could see him making it as a third or fourth liner down the road, or at least making it in the AHL.

Ruperts were fun to watch in the OHL, but I dont see what a set of 5'9 agitator twins are expected to do in the NHL. Here's to hoping they have a growth spurt.

A request, there's a Rupert thread pretty high up on the boards; this thread is for the news/information about the FA invites.

Can someone clarify which players each team would be able to sign after camp? If they were skipped over in two drafts, like Myles Bell, could the team sign him?

kris 06-25-2012 09:57 AM

Gotta show some love for Cameron Critchlow, tireless worker with all the intangibles you can ask for. Don't know how much pro potential he has but was definitely a top player/leader on the Moose this year as a 20 yr old in the Q.

Some may remember his 5 goal performance in game 7 in Quebec to oust Patty Roy, Grigo and co in a very good series.

Unfortunate circumstances that he had a 1 game suspension in game 5 for an automatic rule where if you take a players helmet off it's a 1 game suspension, on a highly questionable call looking at the video. Ended up in the press box for the eliminating game of his Q career.

Speaking with Cam Russell he's already offered him a coaching position within the organization and loved the guy during his short stint here, obviously wishing him all the best in his camp with Edm.

I could see him sticking in the A or ECHL for a bit and possibly working his way into a bottom line guy down the road.

Signing a player after camp relates to where the player played hockey the prior season, NA or elsewhere.

Bell can be signed, yes.

Players get skipped over during the draft and signed during the summer/fall each year. For a few examples (not an exhaustive list, just some examples), see SJS/JP Anderson and Sgarbossa; Washington/Brandon Anderson.

Philly's issue with Hyka last summer/fall related to Hyka being a European player and this is one of the places in the CBA where European players have different rules applied. There are some good write-ups if you search for the stuff about the Hyka situation last summer.

It's 8.9 in the CBA.

For a NA-based player last season, eligible and not selected in the draft, in simple terms, what happens is that a team can sign a player to a tryout contract for the summer at some point after the conclusion of the entry draft and if they decide they want to sign a player to an ELC, they do so before the tryout agreement expires. The expiration varies by age for the NA-based player, but again in simple terms, it's the start of the NHL season as long as they are on the tryout agreement.

In fairness Brian Boyle's family could populate a small town in New Jersey
24/7 said he had a family of 15 or something crazy like that. Everyone of them they showed looked exactly like him though.
