SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,164,167; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (15-man roster): $11,135,833

that is there roster as of today....they have 11 players on their roster that are either ufa or rfa and only have two full forward lines and 2 d lines??? look at the caphits on everyone...omg no wonder marleau is being shopped around now

Bench 06-24-2012 06:44 PM

Only 3 of those contracts go beyond 2 years: Havlat, Stuart, and Burns.

Within a few seasons we'll be looking at an entirely different Sharks team.

joe89 06-24-2012 06:49 PM

Yeah, but everything of importance is signed. They will have one or two more cracks with this roster, and then they'll probably be doing what we are doing right now, trying to reload.

Frk It 06-24-2012 06:51 PM

what is this thread about, exactly?

SoupNazi 06-24-2012 06:53 PM

And the purpose of this thread is?

Bench 06-24-2012 06:53 PM

I think it's about the Sharks, the team the Wings have to keep pace with in the West. :sarcasm:

The Zetterberg Era 06-24-2012 06:56 PM

Would love Patrick Marleau's speed, but I cannot see us being the team that wins the bidding. He is a little too maligned in my opinion, but he has come up small in some of their post-seasons. Also on the wrong side of 30, but he has been a consistent 30 goal scorer, if we truly need a goal scorer you could do worse than him.

So we need to turn over the roster entirely in a couple years? :sarcasm:

Redwings1927 06-24-2012 06:59 PM

just basically wanted a new thread because its getting depressing around here with how "holland sucks" or w.e...thought i would look at a team that we are somewhat rivals and see if i could make some happy faces :)

lol you can close the thread, i don't care...just thought i would change up our boards because all ppl are doing is whining about holland or whoever is not getting things done to make us better...

sorry for the change of topic lol

man i would sure like those who think that to publicly name themselves.

guinness 06-24-2012 07:02 PM

Marleau isn't the type of player the Wings need, go look the Sharks board during the playoffs when their fans complain about his typical disappearing act.

You don't have to dig back too far. Last fall these forums were abuzz with all the "Sharks got better, we didn't" talk after the Havlat and Burns trades.

ahh ok,

i think Burns has made them better for their future the problem is they are stuck with too many greying expensive older beards and didnt adjust on the fly like they should have

You realize, though, that every thread on here evolves into "Holland sucks" though, right?

I don't know how Brent Burns still has a fan club that defends him as anything more than just over-hyped. The San Jose PP which was always actually good, got worse with him on it. With his new cap figures that is a terrible deal. Throw in that Seto and Coyle went the other way and that is an absolutely awful deal. Then again you are the guy that likes JayBo and they are virtually the same overrated smooth skating d-men that hinted at being so much more but ultimately aren't close to the #1 d-men people constantly call them.

Hope Todd McClellan told Babcock he owes Holland an apology for his diatribe when they missed out on that turnover machine.

With the Sharks crashing and burning like we did, I wonder how much of it was just frustration/panic/etc. Looking at his numbers, his career playoff production isn't far from his regular season production, and neither is at an "elite" level. the guy might just be a good complimentary player, but SJ has never had the right guys around him for that to be enough.

aar000n 06-24-2012 11:46 PM

Marleau is a lazy floater with a lot of talent and we alreadt have Franzen so the role of lazy floater is taken. :handclap:

GentlemanMasher* 06-25-2012 01:34 AM

Marleau isn't what we need. Unless we for some reason hit our heads and wake up thinking we need a heartless, passionless floater with no guts.

I haven't been happy with Mule lately but cripes, at least he gets mad every once in awhile.

JmanWingsFan 06-25-2012 06:59 AM

Welp, considering there really is no direction to this thread....

This is exactly why I am baffled at the stupidity of Howson. Does he realize if a package is centered around Couture that the Sharks, you know, might not even be able to FIT Nash on the team?

That's SJ's problem. If they want Nash, they'll have to move the deck chairs around to make it fit.

thats all well and good but i never said they were #1 dmen, I said they were and would be great #2 dmen in Detroit.

Burns and Boyle had the same # of pp points, Boyle had fewer goals. But yes, it is 100% Burns' fault that the pp wasnt as good this year.

I said Burns was good for their future because he is their best young dman. Boyle is 36 and is on his last legs and they have nobody else.

Nobody else??? Marc Edward Vlasic is their best young D and that isn't even a really close competition in my opinion.

No I think Vlasic > Burns. They play different style games so points probably won't ever be the same but Vlasic actually plays D and isn't a turnover machine.

Sharks fans are very high on Vlasic. Was interesting which one of the two made the Canada team at the Worlds this year. Best thing Burns has going for him is it looks like Vlasic might be his D partner the next couple years, helping to bail him out.

*Though I did butcher how he spells Edouard in my original post.

hahaha dont worry i am not an English or Grammar teacher

if you stand by your statement that you think Vlassic is a better NHl dman then Burns then I respect your opinion, disagree which is more valuable but respect it nonetheless
