Tim Thomas to Colorado

His family lives there, so it makes sense.

What would it cost the Avs?

KnightofBoston 06-24-2012 10:48 PM

Nothing

Please take him

CobraAcesS 06-24-2012 10:52 PM

We don't need your cap dump please look else where. Thanks

Drij 06-24-2012 10:57 PM

we already had this discussion. don't want.

Joe Sakic 06-24-2012 10:58 PM

Why would we want a cap hit for no player?

What if he returns tho? There is no official confirmation that he is not playing next year.

how many goalies do we need?

KnightofBoston 06-24-2012 11:01 PM

Thomas will play. Especially if it's in Colorado

He's full of it, the guy lives and breathes hockey and worked his ass off to get where he is

He just doesn't want to be in Boston. He wants to play hockey close to home so he can get minimal liberal media scrutiny and snuggle up in his bunker after a hard days work

Elever 06-24-2012 11:01 PM

You have to say Thomas + who else otherwise no one is interested tbh

BergyWho37 06-24-2012 11:03 PM

Avs say no but it all depends if there below the cap ! I would think maybe CBJ only if nash gets traded somewhere and Islanders could be another 1

Hey that's true. If he DOES return then we can tell our young up-and-coming 23 year old goalie to go **** himself because we get Tim Thomas for a year!

WOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!

We only gave up a 1st and 2nd round pick for Varlamov but IT WOULD BE EXTREMELY WISE to basically tell him...."Hey buddy, you need to take a backseat because we've got Tim Thomas right now!!!".

Then Varlamov will give the Avs the finger, and "Radulov-it" back to Russia. J-S Giguere will retire or sign elsewhere in 2013 and then Thomas will say, hey I'm a free agent now, I think I'll sign in Chicago!!!".

Everybody wins!!!

is varlamov going to play 65+ games including playoffs?

Thomas could easily take a big load off him and fill in if Varly were to get injured. You need depth at goal to win a cup.

That's why we have Giguere.

This guy makes a few good points. If Thomas comes back it screws over both Varlamov and Giguere. If he doesn't it is doing a favor for Boston for nothing. With the amount of FAs the Avs have, I doubt they will have trouble reaching the cap.

Pierce Hawthorne 06-24-2012 11:16 PM

If it were mid July and the Avs had missed out on both Suter and Parise, then MAYBE we take Tomas+ for futures, but were not just gonna take him for nothing.

Tomas + a 2nd for a 5th or something I could see, but the Avs certainly wont add anything of value in a trade.

2011-2012 stats

15-11-3 record
.919% save percentage
2.27 GAA

$1,250,000 salary

I think we will be just fine with Giggy as our back up.

except they didn't win it..

And like the other guy said, we have Giggy & Varlamov. Get out of our Koolaid when it comes to goalies we are happy with what we have FOR ONCE IN YEARS since Roy retired.

He struggled a little bit at the start of the year but the kid had a MASSIVE amount of pressure on him after the trade on top of the plane crash that killed a lot of people who was very close to. He finally calmed down and Giggy had a big part in that. Anyone who watched Varlamov the last half of the season will tell you one of the key factors for us even being in playoff contention was Varlamov and he also played absolutely lights out in the Worlds for a Russian team that plays a pure offensive style.

Tournaments like that are usually nightmares for goalies because of all the open ice and the collection of talent. He absolutely shut the door and was one of their best players.

I guess we'll find out next April, if you make the playoffs that is

Which I am hoping for, I desperately want to see Landeskog maximize and take over a game

So you can play all your youngs and not have a guy take up a roster spot .. not saying it will happen but teams will consider it...

Oh yeah for the right team it's an awesome option. As Avs fans we are just hoping we are no longer one of those teams.

BergyWho37 06-24-2012 11:45 PM

Just cause he takes a year off... doesn't mean that he is going to be brutal when he comes back either sure he's old but Brodeur's pretty good or I guy named Hasek still wants to play ... Way to harsh on Tim Thomas you guys ! Look at his numbers in any league .. This guy NEVER gives up on a puck;)

jfisher6 06-24-2012 11:48 PM

How about

:avs
Tim Thomas
Brad Marchand

:bruins
Conditional 2013 7th
