CHL CBA negotiations?
Just reminded that the CHL-PHPA CBA expired (circa 5/31/2012).

So, in addition to the NHL CBA negotiations this summer, there will probably be some with these two parties as well.

So with the CHL in it's current state is there a possibility of a lockout?

Lockout - owner initiated. Strike - player initiated.

So, sure.

I can't recall there _ever_ being a minor-league game lost to a work stoppage -- there was an alleged "strike" over the summer when the CBA was being re-negotiated between the PHPA and the ECHL (the same summer that the former WCHL teams joined the league), but that was resolved before the season started... I don't honestly think many players were actually honoring that "in name only" strike, and were still signing contracts, etc. The PHPA seems to be far weaker in power than the NHLPA.

I have seen a couple signings on elite prospects. So I wonder what this all means. Because if the CBA isn't in effect aren't they not allowed to sign players?

It's almost a month later, this is the prime time for signing free agents.

I knew this was the summer that the IHL teams had to decide if they were going to become CHL members or not.
