Peter Muller NOT given qualifying offer. Will go UFA July 1

Well I'm surprised.

BoxOfChocolates 06-25-2012 05:18 PM

Porter wasn't either

Pretty surprised, but good news is the Avs will almost for sure go for a FA now.

The Mars Volchenkov 06-25-2012 05:19 PM

Maybe he'd sign for less. Still surprising.

electricjib 06-25-2012 05:20 PM

hmmm....I somewhat expected this. I mentioned him in trade threads earlier and everyone said there was no way the Avs would give up on him.

I really thought he'd be traded...guess they couldn't find anyone to take his rights. Its a shame I'll miss him, but this shows the Avs have some plans.

JWK 06-25-2012 05:20 PM

Hopefully, it's a situation like Tyler Kennedy last year. Didn't get QO but still returned to Pens.

henchman24 06-25-2012 05:20 PM

2.5 was too much given his history. We will see if the Avs try to sign him for less before the 1st.

Danglesnipe 06-25-2012 05:20 PM

Well, at least we won't be banking the season on a healthy Mueller.

Best of luck Mueller!

I care, seeing as it's the best news I've heard all day.

Thats what I'm thinking too. It doesn't make sense for us to let him walk and I feel Mueller want to do a deal somewhat like Duchene and take less and earn his next contract.

BrickAHL 06-25-2012 05:22 PM

I hope we still find a way to sign him but seriously I will miss you Porter... I mean Mueller.

Bill Peckerskull 06-25-2012 05:22 PM

Well, that's too bad for him. I can't imagine anyone else is going to give Pete $2.5 per year with his track record. He's one good shot away from forced retirement.

Bonzai12 06-25-2012 05:22 PM

1) Sad to see him go, but I can understand why. Can't have a guy shuffling in and out of your lineup all the time. Ruins chemistry and consistency with lines - despite his talent.

2) Bring on Free Agency. Time to get a winger.

Here's the link for y'all.

Renegade Stylings 06-25-2012 05:25 PM

We better still sign him or this is terribly stupid.

Pretty much what I was about to post, no more Kevin ''I played great'' Porter, oh happy day.

Congo Jack 06-25-2012 05:29 PM

Which players in the AHL were UFA?

PAZ 06-25-2012 05:33 PM

Very unhappy with this. Should've just Qualified him for a 1 year and let him be overpaid, considering what we gave Hunwick and Wilson.

Definitely questioning this, the only remedy to this would be signing him on July 1st. I'm losing faith in Sherman being able to negotiate with depth players, but then again he's proved me wrong with the trades so hopefully i'll be wrong.

Goulet17 06-25-2012 05:33 PM

I am rather surprised by this news. I thought the Avs would sign Mueller to a one year deal at his QO rate.

It seems like we may need to wingers to play with Duchene now. I am not sold on Hejduk after watching him the last half of the season.

BrickAHL 06-25-2012 05:34 PM

Anybody else think we will sign Boyes now?

:help:

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if we did...

I really hope this is opening up a spot for Parise or Semin.

I was thinking about it the other day when I was looking at the UFA's on cap geek. Wouldn't be surprised at all.

Maybe Mueller wouldn't sign anything less than ____ years (who knows what that is) and figured that it would be best to not give him a QO. ???

Help me out, team: "Also, Kevin Porter not qualified, and everybody else was who was eligible." Huh? So the Avs qualified everyone but Mueller and Porter, right?

What's terribly stupid about it? You can't count on the guy playing or not playing. You almost have to carry an extra winger or acquire one because you don't know when he's gonna be on the ice. You can't set up lines really well in the preseason/offseason because you never know when he'll play. Even if they brought in a guy a little less talented, the comfort of knowing he can show up every night and you don't have to consistently shuffle lines is nice.

His health was affecting the whole team. And you never knew when it was going to get better. I like Peter Mueller and I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully he comes back 100%. But I can totally understand why they did this, if he indeed is gone.
