Who is the best 3C now that J Staal is a 2C?

I think Jordan Staal was widely regarded as the best shutdown center in the NHL for the past 4 years. Atleast he was IMO. Now that he'll be a 2C on the Canes, who takes his place as the best 3rd Line Center in the NHL?

Being a Hawks fan I get to watch Dave Bolland for 82 games and I think he's been one of the best for about 3 years.

Bolland

Toastman 06-25-2012 07:34 PM

Plekanec

Sutter will probably bump Malkin down to the 3C slot. So Malkin I guess.

WasTeD 06-25-2012 07:35 PM

Bolland was the first name that came to my head reading the thread name.

Pual Statsny 06-25-2012 07:36 PM

Duchene is the most talented, but probably not the best #3C.

Either Stastny/O'Reilly/Duchene whichever one turns out to be our 3rd line center.

Gootie 06-25-2012 07:40 PM

Dave Bolland

Izzy 06-25-2012 07:43 PM

Antropov?

Or he was 4th line last time I checked.

Horcoff or Stoll maybe.

It's a shame any one of those will be a 3rd line center. They're all capable of being first line centers.

Anyways I think Dave Bolland

I bet Stastny gets traded eventually.

Last year in Pittsburgh, Jordan Staal had 15:25 per game at even strength. That's more any other forward in Pittsburgh except Malkin - yes, more even strength ice time than James Neal and Sidney Crosby.

He never was a "3C".

In fact, Jordan Staal was 22nd in the entire NHL - among centers - for even strength ice time per game.

...and he wasn't even close to the "best shutdown forward".

Get facts right, then make threads.

Last Year he was the 2nd line centre as Crosby missed so many games. Staal was never a traditional 3rd line role, he had more responsibility than that.

Probably Bolland.

Exactly what I was thinking at the beginning of this thread.

Chances are that "the best 3C" will always be from a team with 2 strong Centers and the term 3rd line center has very little application to that guy as he is really a top 6 forward on a strong team.

Staal was always a 3c on the Pens when Sid and Geno are healthy. His big minutes do nothing but show how valuable of a player he is.

Avs_19 06-25-2012 08:04 PM

Ryan O'Reilly.

Trance Kuja 06-25-2012 08:05 PM

Dave Bolland

wKetch22 06-25-2012 08:06 PM

Chris Kelly or Rich Peverley

Ho Borvat 06-25-2012 08:10 PM

Doesn't put up huge offensive numbers but Brian Boyle deserves a nomination for best 3rd line center. Plays some pretty tough minutes
