I don't have enough info about Collberg to put him ahead of Leblanc even though his upside is probably higher.

add Vail

Yea, I didn't realize what he was saying, when I realized what he meant, I edited my post. But I agree with you.

Collberg over Leblanc because:

-First line scoring potential that isn't massively flawed is difficult to find outside of top 10 picks. It's very possible he will be less than that but I can see him as a future 30+ goal scorer, something I can't see with Leblanc.

-Even if Leblanc is more complete, Collberg's shot and explosiveness are just too valuable to be ignored.

-Organizational need. For two prospects very close, factors like this come into play for me.

-I just can't get a firm grasp on what Leblanc's identity as a player is. Part of it isn't his problem. Is he better off as a defensive specialist? A shut down two way playmaker who will compliment Eller or Plekanec in to create a line impossible to play against? Is he going to be a center? That Leblanc is good to very good at everything isn't a knock of course, and why he is so much safer than someone like Collberg, but figuring out how to maximize his potential is complicated.

Add Brady Vail

Collberg, add Vail.

hogtownhabsfan* 06-27-2012 10:47 AM

Collberg strictly due to upside. No doubt Leblanc is closer, and no doubt he is at worst a good 3rd liner, but Collberg has all-star upside as a 1st line sniper. I had him as a top 12 prospect in this draft. I'd also have both, along with Tinordi, over Beaulieu. (shades of Button, I know, but I'd gamble on Collberg over Beaulieu at this point, and I do really like the roles Leblanc and Tinordi can play and fill).

WeThreeKings 06-27-2012 10:49 AM

Collberg because he is the only player with legit 1st line upside out of the rest.
Add MacMillan

I think Leblanc is somewhere between Plekanec and Eller. I don't think he has Plekanec's offensive potential. However I think he can be as good defensively as Plekanec. However, I think he has more offensive upside than Eller. I can see him being a consistent 40 point guy on the 3rd line.

But I'm not a big fan of Eller. I'm not saying I don't like him, I just don't think he's going to be as great as everyone else thinks. aka I don't think Eller is Pleks 2.0.

I think we are going to have an excess of 3rd line centres and centres in general in 2-3 years if Galy pans out. Eller & DD should both be trade bait in a year.

fufonzo 06-27-2012 10:58 AM

I voted Collberg - I like his upside. I actually like him more than Tinordi and maybe even Beaulieu.

As for Leblanc, I'm thinking he'll need to be moved to the wing at some point. He's great along the boards and plays a good two-way game. I see him topping out as a great 2nd line player though.

I think Leblanc should be used as a winger from now on. I also rate Eller higher than Leblanc, and if you are looking for a 40 point guy I think Eller is at least that, but let's just agree to disagree there. I do see some similarities between Eller and LL though, but before anyone is traded I want to see what happens to Gally, Eller, DD and Plekanec this year.

danyhabsfan 06-27-2012 11:05 AM

I only see Leblanc as a 3rd line player so I voted for Collberg.

RW down the road

Collberg 1st potential
Gallagher 2nd line potential
Leblanc 3rd line
White 4th line

Protest the Hero 06-27-2012 11:08 AM

Leblanc, add MacMillan.

Bullsmith 06-27-2012 11:09 AM

Tough call between Collberg and Leblanc for me (and I see for the board in general.) Collberg has more upside but Louis is almost an NHL regular. Regardless of who comes 4 the other will surely be 5.

Add Nash.

I like. That doesn't even include Kristo though, but I'm little skeptical of Kristos desire to wear the CH at this point. And while I agree with Gallagher as a 2nd liner and Leblanc as a 3rd liner, I'd still rank Leblanc over Gallagher due to his proximity to the NHL as well the fact I think Leblanc can be an elite 3rd liner, while I see Gallagher as more of an average 2nd line sniper.

For some reason I get that too, I feel like he wants to play in the US or at least not a city filled with hockey obsessives who speak French. But I'm not a Kristo fan and I wouldn't mind if he makes me look foolish for dismissing him.

Kristo vs Gallagher is an interesting one, I think Kristo is a safer bet to make the NHL but I'd take Gallagher and his greater desire and greater hockey sense any day.

WTF???

You don't have an eye for talent. Leblanc is clearcut 2nd line potential

Scotianhab 06-27-2012 11:37 AM

Collberg.

Add Macmillan.

BlackStar 06-27-2012 11:45 AM

Collberg could very well end up being better than Leblanc, however, Leblanc is more likely to reach his potential. Leblanc played very well last year in the AHL and was a good third-line forward in the NHL last year as a rookie. It's very likely that he develops into a top 6 player.

Collberg could end up as a top line winger, but he has not proved himself like Leblanc has. You HAVE to go with Leblanc here, then Collberg, then Gallagher.

Our forward prospects look very very very good right now!
