Interesting move. I thought we needed a guy who could actually play defense though. He'll help out offensively for sure, but he's another guy you have to protect defensively. I would've preferred Coliacovvo. Or someone like that who is a 3/4 that has a little less offense, but more versatility. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me unless JBo is out of here and we're bringing in an actual shutdown guy.

If he signs, the Flames will suddenly be much better offensively from the back end. However, I really hope it's not a long term deal and I especially hope it doesn't come with any sort of NTC/NMC, although, that will be challenging for Feaster.

A little surprised that Wideman would sign with us so quick. Makes me think he told his GM he wanted to play in Calgary and they set up something right away.

That contract is horrible....ugh.

Too much term and too much money. Explain to me again why we got rid of a better defenseman (Regehr) who makes less money, with less term to have cap flexibility?

I don't think it's too bad. If he has a good partner, you have a high scoring RH dman for 5 years.

Regehr was getting older and slower; I had no problems with him moving on. Signing Wideman for this much and this long has me leaning towards Bouwmeester leaving.

The only way this deal is not completely brutal is if Feaster has a new home lined up for Babchuk or JBo.

5 years is longer than I wanted, but I think you're underestimating Wideman. He's definitely better than Regehr.

Not a fan of this signing or Comeau's. Hopefully they pan out...

Hey everyone on the bright side, no one has even commented on giving up Hendry + 5th so atleast we didn't give up anything for him really.

Terrible signing..

I agree with you there, but he was still a much better fit with JBo than Wideman will ever be. He made us hard to play against. We have lots of speedy, mobile guys in JBo, Giordano, Brodie and Smith. The only one of those guys capable of knocking over a 12 year old girl is Gio. It will be even more apparent with Sarich moving on and Sarich is certainly slower than Regehr was.
