Should be "GMs go full-idiot." Wideman for $5.2 million? :amazed:

Parise/Suter are going to get $9+ mil from some moron.

I thought his place was in Fairfield.

There are 3 of them. I went to Stamford. I think his is in Stamford.

EDIT: ****... you're right, I went to the wrong one. This is gonna ruin my ****ing weekend.

NyRangers88 06-27-2012 02:23 PM

I love the name of this edition :handclap:

New York RKY 06-27-2012 02:23 PM

Keep it on topic guys. This isn't Drury's Pizza Hut thread.

silverfish 06-27-2012 02:26 PM

Jeez...Wideman was an 8th rounder in '02 after putting up 69 points in 67 games in the OHL...AND 141 PIMs?

I guess the -7 and size issues were enough for him to fall that far? Well, not a bad pay day/career for a former 8th rounder.

Jason Garrison is going to get PAID on 7/1...I hope the Rangers are in on him, but not for too much.

NYR Viper 06-27-2012 02:27 PM

I can not believe Wideman got 5.25 million for 5 years.........

Hey Calgary, you have similar players in Giordano and Bouwmeester!! You don't need another one!

Haven't they tried this before with Phaneuf, JBo and Regehr as their big 3?

Maybe this means JBo is on his way out?

Bob Richards 06-27-2012 02:27 PM

So ****ing happy that Calgary signed Wideman. Was starting to have fears that Slats would try and sign him.

Jesus, that contract is awful.

Blueshirt Believer 06-27-2012 02:31 PM

Jesus Christ on a popsicle stick, that is a MASSIVE overpayment for Wideman.

I wouldn't have minded that dude as a 3rd pairing Dman and PP specialist, but NO THANKS!!

Rangers Fail 06-27-2012 02:35 PM

That's a horrible overpayment.

I thought Wideman's worth was closer to 5.25 in 5 years than 5.25 per.

(Slight exaggeration, but seriously, that's a horrible contract. Good luck ever getting rid of it, Calgary.)

NyRangers88 06-27-2012 02:35 PM

That Wideman deal reminds me of the Redden deal. Glad it's not us this time.

You barely defended your busted Mueller deal, where you magically insert #s he has yet to attain in full health.

Hence the term "upside."

We lost to NJD over depth. The coach said it, the whole org. knows it!
They had no plan after Nash, and it cost them. there were depth moves made in Feb-deadline, we didn't have to end up with john scott! we could have at least gotten a vet defenseman.
So we should have paid the absurdly high asking prices on pylons like Zanon and Kubina? How about 3 more years of Tom Gilbert at $4m a pop? Maybe I was watching the wrong deadline, but there wasn't exactly an abundance of depth d-men available.

I advocate pursuing real top line talent through FA or trade. i'll move Dubinsky or MDZ in order to do it, you won't. You want broken players, I don't. you're afraid of mistakes.
You'll move Dubinsky? Way to go out on a limb. I never said I wouldn't move Dubinsky, and I've already said before that I'd be willing to move Del Zotto in the right deal, just not as some throw-in in a package deal for a guy like Nash. I also specifically mentioned moving Stepan as a poor decision. Yet you've said you wouldn't let Stepan get in the way of acquiring Bobby Ryan.

I also said I would explore the trade market later in the summer or after camp to see if more options opened up. Granted, it's probably easier to argue against points I never made.

Let's see which direction management goes in this Sunday.

I guarantee you it won't be yours...
Ah yes, because we all know that being in agreement with our management always plays out so well.

RangerBoy 06-27-2012 02:36 PM

This is why the Rangers have a boatload of D. So they don't have to invest big dollars in 6th D.

Torts is the reason why TB won the Cup. Uncle Feaster is a moron.

Lundsanity30 06-27-2012 02:37 PM

WOW over 5M for Wideman?

is you're in the exact same spot you started, with minimal risk attached to the acquisition. Sounds like a good idea to me given the current UFA and trade environments.

If you read between the lines, what I really said is, "Mueller is the only possible option! Trades are bad! I'm afraid of change!" :sarcasm:

HatTrick Swayze 06-27-2012 02:41 PM

HOLY COW.

That is a TERRIBLE signing.

If that is any indication of this year's market Prust may get his $2.5M.

hpNYR 06-27-2012 02:43 PM

If we're not making trades I'd really like to see Doan and Schultz. If we strike out on Schultz you explore Garrison.

However, ideally, we'd like to get another goal scorer so a Ryan type would make sense. That's if management wants to give up assets and make a trade.

Trxjw 06-27-2012 02:43 PM

There has to be LSD in the water in Calgary. It's just a steady stream of idiocy, and the only players who can survive are superman Iginla, ageless Kipper, and crazy-eyes Jokinen.

Sutter got canned and ended up winning the cup. Maybe someone should trade for Jay-Bo and he'll end up winning a Norris. :sarcasm:

Exactly what i thought. I don't understand why teams can spend so freely without knowing what the cap will be. A rollback is not a guarantee i think.

Killem Dafoe 06-27-2012 02:45 PM

holy **** that Wideman signing. Feaster and Howson fighting for GM of the year.

RangerBoy 06-27-2012 02:47 PM

Wideman will get $5.5M. Carle will get big money. Suter will get a blank check. That is all of what's left in the free agent market. FLA offered $3M-$3.5M to Garrison. Carle wants to sign in the west. Colorado. Philly wants him back.

ECL 06-27-2012 02:48 PM

I was expecting 2.5M for Wideman at the most.

Holy ****.

ECL 06-27-2012 02:48 PM

There is now a three way battle for worst GM in the league.
