hey my picture made the main post!

Also I love the DENNIS system. I hope Sid has been using that on Parise.

Konstantin Koltsov 06-27-2012 09:14 PM

So... isn't this great?

AgentM 06-27-2012 09:14 PM

To Jaded Fans comment about Ryan and saving $3m in cap space:

I agree that saving that cap space can definitely be worth some assets. And as much as I want Parise on this team (I'm talking unsafe levels of depression at the thought of not getting him) Ryan might be a better fit in a lot of ways. As mentioned he'll be cheaper for the next 3 years. Then you add to that that he is 3 years younger (not a huge deal) and a right handed shot (this IS a huge deal) and I would be happy with Ryan as a consolation prize. Do you think Shero sees him as a plan B to Parise?

shureshot66 06-27-2012 09:14 PM

Not much on the Parise front today, other than DeBoer saying that he's optimistic his captain will re-sign.

Here's a view from Nashville on Suter:

Quote:

But even if he does choose the Predators after a couple of days, this puts Nashville in a bind. If Nashville wants to add other players on July 1, it will be hard to identify which types of players without knowing the Predators’ salary structure.

This is not to say the Predators should cut ties with Suter and move on. He’s a core player and arguably the best player available on the market. But you have to wonder what will happen if Plan B becomes a reality.

For example, Penguins defenseman Paul Martin could be part of this situation. He’s a bit overpaid at $5 million, which is not exactly a great number if you’re Nashville. But according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review he is a candidate for a trade. Martin, 31, is the type of player who could benefit from a change of scenery. And while he may cost a lot in terms of money, the Predators could get him on a salary dumping situation. The Penguins are reportedly clearing cap space for a run at Zach Parise and potentially Suter. Pens General Manager Ray Shero and Poile were seen talking multiple times at the NHL draft last weekend. They also have some history, with Shero being a former assistant general manager with the Predators.

Interesting, these next 3 days will be very long

Could we sign both Parise and Doan?

We can but I think we would be better off adding a vet D with Parise

Ogrezilla 06-27-2012 09:23 PM

So we have talked Parise to death. We know we want him and Suter. I'm just going to throw some less talked about UFA names out as plan B,C,D,E kind of guys or as guys to maybe get as a cheap option for the other wing if we do get someone like Doan or Ryan and have a few extra bucks to spare.

Andre Kostitsyn
Olli Jokinen
Dustin Penner
Ryan Smyth

There's a couple different levels of teams. You have Columbus and Long Island teams, then you have a bunch in the middle that have talent and can compete from year to year. Then you have a handful of contenders. Then among those contenders you have a couple teams that have amazingly talented players.

Players like to get paid. They like to win. They like solid organizations. Most players like to play with other talented players. Now for some it's a wish (as a 3rd liner doesn't expect to get regular minutes with superstars). However when you're an elite talent, having the chance to contend, get paid, play for a solid organization and play along side other elite players... that's a draw that will attract other players. That doesn't mean we get every UFA we want... however it's not like we're dismissed out of hand (unless there's a personal issue somewhere).

We would probably need to at least move TK. But I think we could keep Martin or another defensemen at about his price.

If the Pens think Jokinen can work as a winger, I would take him as a Plan B or C. Samuelsson is the only other player on that list I would be vaguely interested in, along with Semin. All the rest of them can go #$%^&*(()

Well said.

Plus are brand new building with state of the art everything isn't killing our chances. Other factors are mild media heat, good privacy off the ice, low taxes and low cost of living. (Compared to other mega cities.)

I agree we would be in that top tier. There are a lot of people that seem to think we are just the flat out top choice though. I'd say Chicago, LA, Detroit, NYR, Vancouver etc have to be pretty appealing too.

I don't like Huselius and I honestly don't know squat about Stempniak. I would like the others as a 2nd wing pickup to push Dupuis down.

I like all of them. I just would rather take a guy from that top list and bump Dupuis down into the bottom 6 and Adams hopefully to waivers or at least 13th F. If we can't do that, I'd take any of those guys over Adams in a heartbeat if we could afford them.

MtlPenFan 06-27-2012 09:39 PM

Signing Jokinen will just be a revisiting of the Fedetenko and Satan signings. Somehow it worked and thank God for that, but a couple of years later, one guy's just killing penalties and the other is out of the league entirely.

I just harp on Ryan because the guy sounds like he just wants to get the **** out of Anaheim, and those are the types of teams you target, where disgruntled players are essentially begging their way out of dodge.

eXile59 06-27-2012 09:42 PM

Even teams with out cap space will take swings at them. Sign them & figure out the rest later.

Unless I'm missing something that is a pretty bad comparison. Fedatenko hasn't hit 40 points since 2006. Jokinen just put up 61. 54 and 50 the two years before. The guy hasn't put up less than 50 points since 2002.

Not calling him an ideal signing, but he is a good player.

mpp9 06-27-2012 09:43 PM

I don't think we've discussed too many options on D aside from Suter. Bryan Allen, sure. I'd go for Klesla of he's the odd man out in Phoenix. Pair him with Martin or Letang.

Konstantin Koltsov 06-27-2012 09:43 PM

I'd take Konopka on the 4th line in a heartbeat.

Wouldn't mind Rusty. Though honestly, I expect its either Suter or Martin.

Kind of strange that Konopka never got much of a chance at even WBS while a member of the Pens organization. I mean 70 pts, 230 PIM's, great faceoff guy at age 22 in Wheeling should have at least got more than a sniff with WBS, especially when you consider the talent levels of the early 2000's Pens. Had to save room for the Shane Edincott's and Eric Meloche's of the world.
