Ryan Suter - UFA Part 2

Jason Brough Jun 25, 2012, 12:20 PM EDT

Ryan Suter (D)
Age: 27
2011-12 cap hit: $3.5 million

The skinny:
Detroit, Minnesota and Pittsburgh are probably the three favorite landing spots. It’s still possible Suter could end up back in Nashville, though most believe he’s ready to move on. We probably shouldn’t count out Philadelphia either, despite one report he’s not interested in becoming a Flyer and wants to play in the Midwest.

Mark Spector Sports ‏@SportsnetSpec 2:32 PM - 28 Jun 12

The Ryan Suter pursuit will not require teams' attendance, like the [Justin] Schultz interviews, says agent Neil Sheehy. "Ryan will be at his farm in Wisconsin with his phone on. I'll be here in Minnesota."

(I know it wont happen)

Would be nice to have him in OTT for 7.0Mish dollar... our defense would top 4 would be set for years :handclap:

Devilsfan92 06-28-2012 05:09 PM

Ryan Suter, a great legitimate top pairing NHLer with a lot of experience taking phone calls. Schultz a rookie with less than zero experience making teams come to him. There's something wrong here...

Who's the blonde? and is she pregnant or is that just the way the photo was taken?

Suter, come to Jersey.

KelVarnsen 06-28-2012 05:14 PM

Suter is not a clown like Schultz is.

I would love to have him on the Ducks but it is an extreme long shot.

HawksTillDeath 06-28-2012 05:38 PM

I seriously think Chicago will be a player

While i don't know/think they will land him - I can hope

- its a 2.5 hr drive from Chi to Madison, WI (his home)
- they are a competitive team with a lot of young player - and will continue to be competitive
- he would be guaranteed 25 minutes a night (as he would every other place he went)
- they can heavily front-load the contract as they have the cash

overall, i think there is as good a chance to go to Chicago as any other team

Look closely. The white background makes it look like she's pregnant. Poor color choice.

Nope LOL. I was focused on what appeared to be a pregnant belly at first glance. Terrible background choice.

Why not the Oilers? Solid young core that still needs a veteran on the top defence pairing. They can throw the money at him as well.

Snowballs chance in heck that he signs with us. :)

Not that I would be upset if he did.

Well Schultz is apparently interested in Edmonton so I have no clue why a proven NHL defenceman like Suter would not at least entertain the possibility. Finding the big time defenceman and a franchise goalie is all that is holding you guys back from being down right terrifying.

His bags are packed and ready to go to Detroit. Looking forward to seeing him wear the Winged Wheel.

VladTheImpaler 06-28-2012 09:20 PM

Suter bought a brand new Cadillac Escalade at Gooley Cadillac in St. Clair Shores, MI two weeks ago. His low-maintenance personality fits in perfectly with our current roster....Holland absolutely loves these kinds of low-key/consummate professionals.

He has Detroit written all over him.

BamaWing 06-28-2012 09:24 PM

Drew miller already deciding on new number

Why would he want to go to an aging has-been team instead of an emerging team like the Blues who are loaded with young stars ?

bland 06-28-2012 09:32 PM

LA will take a shot, and who could blame them. This is what they have to offer:

- a ton of cash, with the cap space to absorb it - as much or more than any quality team has to offer

- he wouldn't have to deal with the pressure of being "the man". Not only on the team, but even at his position. He would play with Drew Doughty for the next 6 or 7 years

- it's a team with no holes, just won the Cup, and built to contend for the better part of the next decade

If I were a free agent, those would be my major hockey concerns, and LA answers them all. Life concerns, thats a different story if you want to be close to friends and family.

Well then think of it as the opportunity to be the man in an ultra competitive enviornment ( :sarcasm: )

Take a look at our roster with the assumption that Holmstrom retires. With or without Suter, the 2012-2013 incarnation of the Wings may not be a favorite, but they will definitely be the youngest (and arguably the most interesting) team we have had in a long time.

OurGocIsAnAwesomeGoc 06-28-2012 09:57 PM

David Poile intimated today the he thinks Suter circle back before signing with another team. He didn't come right out and say "we'll get a chance to match," but that's what the subtext implied.

I think it's about 60 percent that he winds up back in Nashville, with the other 40 percent going to any other team. I think the way he would NOT sign back with the Predators would be an offer substantially higher somewhere else.

David71 06-28-2012 09:59 PM

he's either drw bound or minnisota bound.
