Matt Gilroy

Will Matt Gilroy get another shot at the NHL this year? He was overhyped, but put up respectable numbers with Tampa (obviously he's not a top pairing D) before being shipped off to Ottawa. Do the Sens have any interest in re-signing him or will he test his luck elsewhere?

EssendonBombers 06-30-2012 09:37 AM

Was awful with Ottawa and no way he comes back. Bottom pairing defenseman on a bad team at best.

Vitto79 06-30-2012 09:51 AM

Someone likely gives him a 1 yr under a million, he shows spurts but overall is a huge dissapointment. Maybe he should learn to play some wing? Seriously he can skate well

Mr Atoz* 06-30-2012 10:28 AM

He can play in the Hawaiian league because according to his hype he could skate on water.

Who?

Bad News Bears 06-30-2012 10:44 AM

I was watching a video of all 60 of Stamkos' goals, and Gilroy set up a few of them with really nice plays. I'm sure he'll get a contract somewhere, he's got skills, he's just gotta be consistent.

1 year 800k to 1M on a team that needs depth.

Vitto telling it like it is here. I don't see him shy away from contact, but effectively he's usually a creampuff. Still, he has decent + overall skills and is very strong, possibly superior skater for speed.

He's finesse, but not enough finesse to be a lite version of Letang. Remember him only as a minimally decent wrister, no slap shot at all.

W would be worth trying.

Justin Schultz

You don't want him. Ottawa fans were crying for Brian freaking Lee back after we saw him play.

TSA0402 06-30-2012 02:08 PM

His decent point totals were a result of the Stamkos effect. Brian Lee is not a 30-35 point d-man in the NHL right now(close to his pace with Tampa).

I can't describe how much I don't want to see him on the Senators. He was terrible in the regular season, and only played passable for a few games. He was just all over the place with the puck and positioning most of the time. I can think of at least 4 sens prospects that would be better suited than him at this point(and there not even that good).

dan1el 06-30-2012 02:25 PM

Nobody wants this guy, watching his brief stint in Ottawa literally made me sick. He played awful. #7 D-man on the worst defensive core in the league.

hfgreg 06-30-2012 03:23 PM

He has a decent offensive upside but just does the most boneheaded things defensively in his own zone. He's not skilled enough to be a PP QB or PMD. Gilroy does though have a Lundqvist like hairdo. The man has style.

Baby Punisher 06-30-2012 03:48 PM

Someone takes a shot at him. Way too much skill with 3 or 4 year NHL experiance not to take a shot.

startainfection 06-30-2012 03:56 PM

if the isles don't resign reese they will sign him

Jaromir Jagrbombs 06-30-2012 04:04 PM

As long as he doesn't re-sign with us I'll be happy.

This. He sucks

davebenj 06-30-2012 04:45 PM

To be honest, I can't take how bad he is yet he always, always plays well against the Devils. I wonder if they sign him just so he can stop hurting them lol

Everyone skates on water. Learn how skates work.

Near the end of his time with Rangers I wanted to see him play some wing, just don't see him as a dman.

But I thought Stamkos was just a product of Martin St. Louis...:sarcasm:

THIS - Hallelujah

wolfgaze 06-30-2012 07:19 PM

Not an NHL caliber defenseman.

I still am

I think he'll get something, because surely there is a team out there who is lacking a bit of depth and offensive on the backend. If not though, it's definitely possible his time in the NHL is finished.
