Gaustad re-signs with Nashville

Paul Gaustad resigns with Predators 4 years 3.25m per
@KWilsonPreds - The #Preds have agreed to terms with Paul Gaustad on a 4-year, $13 million contract. More to follow tomorrow!

@JoshuaCooper - #preds and Gaustad agree to 4-year $13 million deal

Good for Goose, but I will take Girgensons and Kotalik (salary dump) for Gaustad any day.

mechaphil 06-30-2012 07:26 PM

I don't understand what Kotalik has to do with Nashville

I'm glad he got a nice, stable deal. Hopefully NSH continues to be competitive while he's there.

Part of me was wondering if he was going to wait until after 7/1 to see if Regier would come at him with a comparable offer.

ImpressedDAHagent 06-30-2012 07:28 PM

Alright gaustad!

We packaged the 2nd rounder acquired by taking on Kotalik's contract with Nashville's first to land Girgensons.

I think?

Directly nothing, but the Sabres traded the Gaustad pick and their #42 pick for Girgensons. The Kotalik dump gave the Sabres the #44 pick. So in actually the Sabres net gain was Girgensons and Kotalik for Gaustad and dropping 2 spots in the 2nd round. Sorry but this is how I look at the draft game.

Buffalo got Calgary's 2012 2nd because they took Kotalik off Calgary's hands. Buffalo then used Calgary's 2012 2nd and used it at the Draft with the Nashville 1st Rounder which we got back for Gaustad at the Trade Deadline to move up at the Draft and get Girgensons.

Thank goodness, we need a player like Goose on our team but he wore out his welcome, I was afraid Darcy would try to bring him back.

What do gms/coaches see in this guy? Overall, he's an average third liner with some good-but-not-great defensive qualities and size. Is that just the market? Is faceoff percentage, some shut down ability and decently but not imposingly utilized size worth 3.25?

On July 1, a boulder with a plastic hockey stick glued to it is worth $1.5 million.

Especially when a guy like Helm can be had for a million cheaper per year.

Hey, it's Nashville's problem now, not ours.

I have an interesting story about Paul. There is a fitness/pilates center above my office. One day, the ceiling started to shake. I went upstairs to see what was happening and it turned out to be Paul Gaustad squat jumping onto a table above me. Now that was one high table and I watched as this very large man jumped higher than I could possibly come near to. Make no mistake, Paul Gaustad is an athlete. Good luck to you Goose.

thats great and all that he's an "athlete" but a lot of dudes that do crossfit regularly could pull that off.

guy is a 4th line center on any above mediocre hockey team and certainly not a $3+million a year guy, and especially for 4 years

If I were the Sabres, I would not have tried to resign him. This said, it was fun to watch. This was a 6'4" man jumping higher than I thought possible.

Rob Paxon 06-30-2012 08:20 PM

Good for Goose :handclap:

Jame 06-30-2012 08:23 PM

i never had anything negative to say about goose or his contract here (until the lucic incident)

with that said, im glad the sabres didn't re-sign him.

and with that said... id rather pay someone with gooses skill set 3.25... then pay leino 4.5... atleast goose has a role on a team. leino is roster dead weight

Rhett4 06-30-2012 08:31 PM

So Rhett Warrener and Goose aren't coming back? Is it time for me to change my username and avatar? :sarcasm:

Karate Johnson 06-30-2012 08:33 PM

With a cap of $70 mil $3.25 for a vet who can take face offs and provide some physical play, kill penalties, and is good in the lockeroom isn't going to be out of the ordinary. Pretty thin center FA market just got worse.

One of my favorite Sabres while he was here, so good for him coming from where he came from.

And after that glowing post, glad he's gone and we got what we did... I'm ready to move on from the "scary good" Sabres... Hopefully in 3 years those guys will have completely turned over

I have to agree. My preference would be neither and concentrating on scoring (in a less Brad Boyes kind of way).

Glad he got his pay day. Also glad it wasn't here for that coin.
