Sharks itching to deal Marleau

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/sjs120630.html

The San Jose Sharks would welcome the opportunity of trading veteran forward Patrick Marleau in an attempt to reshape their roster and shed some salary.

Marleau, 32, has two-years remaining on his contract at an annual salary cap hit of $6.9 million.

The three-time All-Star owns a no-movement clause and would have to approve any trade the Sharks try to complete, though sources tell TFP the team is actively looking to deal him.

If you have another source I'd post it. The 4th period is pretty unreliable.

Trvp Lord 06-30-2012 07:26 PM

Intresting... Not really that suprising though. Sharks need changes.

Rey 06-30-2012 07:27 PM

luongo for marleau

Vitto79 06-30-2012 07:27 PM

so does my Ranger offer make more sense now? Although I dont think the Rangers deal Del Zotto since they did not get Schultz

Dubinsky, Anisimov as a starter.

WingedWheel1987 06-30-2012 07:28 PM

I dont know what they plan on getting in return. I could see it as another Brian Campbell situation where its purely a cap dump.

GetThePuckOut 06-30-2012 07:28 PM

The Flames will likely be all over this. J-Bo plus whatever else is needed that isn't Bartschi, Iginla or Glencross.

medhatcanuck 06-30-2012 07:31 PM

Love Marleau, but who wants him at 6.9?

Dark Knight 06-30-2012 07:31 PM

What will they look for in return?

I hope Toronto isn't interested (unless he comes dirt cheap), which is not to say they have the assets to acquire him or not, but I think Sharks will look to trade him for a player who can help them immedietely rather than futures as their window to compete is slowly closing.

I think a change of scenery type of trade could work for teams here. One player I had in mind who can use a change of scenery is Thomas Vanek.

Don't know if Marleau would waive for Buffalo but Vanek alongside Thornton is a better fit than when Heatley was with Thornton.

For Boumeester +, I'd like to see him as a flame

shark fans will tell you he's untouchable unless you overpay...think your best prospects, young rosters players, high picks

InjuredChoker 06-30-2012 07:35 PM

The only fast top 6 F they have besides (injury prone) Havlat?

Still All In 06-30-2012 07:36 PM

I would absolutely take him in Tampa for the right price.

Scoogs 06-30-2012 07:36 PM

Obviously depending on what we give up, I would not mind seeing Marleau land in Toronto and use him as their #1 centerman. He'd be the closest thing to a #1 C the Leafs have had since Sundin. A veteran guy who can provide some leadership for a young Leafs team. You can then leave Grabovski as the #2 C, which he is exactly where he should be.

All of that now affords you to slot Kadri in on the wing, because I personally don't think he'll cut it in the NHL as a C.

Gobo 06-30-2012 07:37 PM

Would Paajarvi + Gagner be at all intriguing?

Ninja Hertl 06-30-2012 07:37 PM

That isn't a rumor. It's pure speculation.

Patty Ice 06-30-2012 07:37 PM

Changed the title to "speculation" because the article offers absolutely NO evidence to support their claim. What is sad is that hundreds of posters will cite this piece of trash as fact.

And no to the flood of bad offers that people will and already have come up with.

For a 2nd tier player with 1100 games on his odometer, I don't think so.

And, they would need a team of horses to drag him out of San Jose.

TealManV 06-30-2012 07:43 PM

Plekanec, Halak and a 2nd.

Pinkfloyd 06-30-2012 07:44 PM

If there was a name behind this story, it might have a little more credibility. It is just an anonymous article. Based on the history of Doug Wilson, this article is false. He has publicly stated on numerous occasions that he does not and will not ask players with full no-move clauses to waive it. It is a matter of principle and respect. The only way he will move Marleau is if there is a window in his clause that will allow Wilson to move him without approval.

I'm honestly surprised this has been allowed to pass as enough for a thread.

hockeyball 06-30-2012 07:44 PM

Really, we don't want to trade Marleau. He is what we need more of, not less.

When did Ryder get upgraded to Pleks?

The Blues and Habs are gonna share Marleau?

Hatrick Marleau 06-30-2012 07:47 PM

Yeah, the forth period is a great source. DW isn't going to trade him because we need more players like him and Havlat.
