Zach Parise - UFA Part 3

With Justin Schultz off the market, focus shifts to free agent Zach Parise

It gave [Justin] Schultz plenty of time to clear out of Don Meehanís high-powered agency before [Zach] Pariseís expected arrival on Sunday...Teams will have the opportunity to do something similar with Parise starting Sunday. The New Jersey Devils captain, easily the most attractive forward expected to hit the open market, plans to bunker down with agents Wade Arnott and Meehan while making a decision on his future.

Itís a vastly different strategy than the one employed by the other blue-chip free agent ó defenceman Ryan Suter ó who planned to remain at his farm in Wisconsin. His agent, Neil Sheehy, will man the phones in Minnesota.

Numerous teams are expected to make pitches for the two players, with some likely trying to pull off a coup by landing both of them.

I swear every hockey player has a girl from the same factory. Exact same stock and everything.

Well, when you account for the extra money he'll be getting from them it kind of evens out, I would think.

I am probably going to be criticized because Im a noob, but what are th chances of Nashville signing Parise? They have the money to spend so they can overpay, if Parise comes Suter will most likely resign as well because he wants top notch talent in front of him. if the press re-up Weber, thats a pretty decent core of Weber, Suter, Parise, and Rinne. thoughts?

GregSirico 06-30-2012 09:55 PM

He will be MASSIVELY overpaid.

I'm not sure if that's Parise's face or Michalek and Dupuis had a child in a time machine, but it's still sexy.

Jimmy D the VP and assistant GM of the Wings just said they will spend up to the Salary Cap, they have 24 million, and they need 3 players.... thats 8 million per player.

I'm sure some team will offer him 10 years 75 mil. Its funny but in the old NHL without the cap, contracts exceeding 6 years were rare. Now its the norm.

The Red Wings would be fools to give Parise $8 mil a year. Hopefully the Red Wings aren't that dumb.

lol, I was going to say: looks more like Michalek than Parise. Plus, Parise isn't taller than Sid ;)

LOL. Photos came out last year from the Leafs Halloween party. One photo had Gus, Kessel and Gunnarson along with their girlfriends and you would swear they invented cloning. Same height build face and hair.

If you do the math on the Zetterberg cap hit you'll see that if the Wings offer Parise 7.8 million a year, its comparable to the percentage of the cap that was committed to Zetterberg at the on set of his contract. So if the Wings offer him between 7.25-7.75 its the same as around 6.25 in 2008.

I'm not sure Pittsburgh has room to overspend on Parise.

They have Crosby and Malkin at 8.7M each, have Fleury and Neal at 5M each, that's damn close to 30M for 4 players and they will need to think about goalies pretty soon as well.

Fleury close to retirement?

KingCanadain1976 06-30-2012 10:25 PM

Again i wouldnt count the kings out. They have the capspace. Dean has been trying to trade for him for at least 3 years. They have the best young core tied up for years. A owner worth billions.

Zach Kopitar willaims
brown richards carter

best top 6 in the league imo

Apparently we have to consider Fleury's 5M AND a goalie. Weird how that works.

Reports have been that the Pens have budgeted 9.5M/year for Malkin (if needed) and can add an 8M/year contract to that and be fine.

Probably because at least half of our D-corps will consist of ELC guys in a year or two.

We have to think about Fleury at $5m, Vokoun at $2m and a goalie. Cool. Glad we have the Bruins/Nords fan to tell us how we manage our net.

Jeez guys. He's not close to retirement but is close to be looking for a new contract. If he wants to stay with Pittsburgh he will sign during 14-15 season, but seeing how he's paid 5M now, he won't be dropping down below 6M for his next signature.

Anyway, I'm glad Pittsburgh fans are looking at the global picture as usually.

Even if Crosby Malkin Parise Neal can put 20 goals in per game, Fleury can give up 21 just because he's McFleury and Vokoun is 35, Tim Tomas does happen, but only once every 10 years.

I mean not like Crosby isn't signed for next 200 years, Malkin for next 20. Not like Neal and Fleury aren't due resigning next two seasons and it's definitly not because Parise only wants a 1 year contract at 2M. If you want to land Parise, you be ready to give him what you gave Malkin and Crosby money wise and in between the two lenght wise.

Zach Parise could get 10 years, $80 million from Penguins

By Sean GentilleSporting News

Zach Parise could be riding shotgun with Sidney Crosby for the next decade.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to offer Parise, the best forward available in free agency by a landslide, a 10-year contract between $75 million and $80 million, according to Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

As for Fleury, does anyone think he is getting a raise? Neal is signed much longer than two years, it is Letang that will be due a raise, and the Pens have in house replacements if that gets ridiculous and they can trade him as they did Staal. They are in good shape for this move.
