Dallas Stars Free Agent Frenzy feat. DJ GMJN

This begins in 2 hours so I figured we should have a forum GDT

Here's to a day of (hopefully) great signings

BigG44 07-01-2012 09:15 AM

Rumor is Parise is asking for $25 million in the first two years ... and he wants a signing bonus of $12 million.

I don't think many teams could swing that ... and the person making the report mentioned NYR are out (one team that could handle that money) since Zach said he'd never sign there.

Gaglardi has a big check book, but does he have the stones to go $25 million in 2 years + $12 million immediately in a signing bonus?

Man I don't know .....

Modo 07-01-2012 09:41 AM

Wow, really?

Parise's gonna make the most of this opportunity. And he's going to cash in big time.

TrillMike 07-01-2012 09:43 AM

Let's hope Gaglardi and Joe get it done.

BigG44 07-01-2012 09:48 AM

Let's play with some numbers.

Give Parise $25 million over the first two years, and you obviously are talking about long, career ending contract.

That said, I doubt he's going to take joke money like $1 million to end the contract. More than likely, you're looking at what Crosby is rumored to be getting which is $3 to $4 million in the final years.

He turns 28 in a few weeks so I would guess you'll need to pay at least 8 years at a premium price. You could stretch the deal 3 more years until he's just about to turn 39 for let's say $3.5 million year. That's an 11 year contract, and you already have $35.5 million in 5 years.

So what about the 6 remaining years? I'll say he'll make $35-$43 million in those years.

So that would be an 11 year contract worth $70.5 to $78.5 million or an annual cap hit of approximately $6.4 to $7.15 million.

The way I came up with that number was by considering Crosby's recent contract. His premium years are rumored to be $10 million/year and the end of contract average is around $3.5 million/year. Therefore with Parise, I just estimated a premium of $7.5 to $8.5 million for 8 years and an end of contract earnings average of $3.5 million.

Anyway … if that $25 million rumor is true and we're talking a career ending contract … this seems like reasonable figures. I know it's wasted hope … but I just wish he'd want a 5 year deal like Bouwmeester went with. Financially though this long term nonsense makes more sense.

Red Wings gearing up for battle:

Red Wings have a delegation headed to Newport offices in Mississauga in pitch for Parise

BigG44 07-01-2012 09:50 AM

Parise might not sign today? Seems like a reasonable suggestion.

You have to think with the number of offers Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are going to have today they take 24 hours to make a decision. #Sens

BigG44 07-01-2012 09:51 AM

Here is the rumor BTW ... it was Garrioch:

The talk is Parise's deal will be worth #25 million in the first two years. #Sens #NHL

Primetimey 07-01-2012 09:54 AM

Not getting my hopes up on Suter/Parise but I still think we have an outside chance on both those guys.

I just hope we sign a couple players, make a trade, and improve this club.

Lets do it!

Troy McClure 07-01-2012 10:03 AM

If you check Spector's this morning, you'll see that almost every beat writer has their team in on Parise, most in on Suter, and many teams going for both.

BigG44 07-01-2012 10:04 AM

No surprise:

Zach Parise is going to market. NJD not necessarily "out" but everyone else is "in." Start your engines.

BigG44 07-01-2012 10:20 AM

If this report is accurate ... Dallas could be going the stop-gap route, and I'm OK with that:

Early indications is that Stars are looking to sign a few veterans.
Whitney, Doan, Sammuelsson, etc?

MetalGodAOD 07-01-2012 10:23 AM

Whitney please.

DaStars99 07-01-2012 10:24 AM

bring it on

BigG44 07-01-2012 10:26 AM

File this under, "About damn time":

Don't get your hopes up ... per DBD:

So...early thoughts here is: "Don't expect anything incredible." Stars may be prepared to sign a few vets, focus on the kids.

MetalGodAOD 07-01-2012 10:32 AM

So basically same as last year?

LoneStarHockey 07-01-2012 10:34 AM

Let's get this frenzy started...I have a feeling Dallas makes a few moves...not getting hopes up about guys like Parise, or Suter but there are solid depth players in this years free agents.

BigG44 07-01-2012 10:38 AM

Remember everyone: If a player doesn't sign with your team, take it personally. He hates you.

15 minutes left......is it too early to have a beer?

Frozen Failure 07-01-2012 10:46 AM

Didn't expect Dallas to go hunting for long term contracts today, but I expect them to upgrade and trade some bodies around.

Stars99Lobo37 07-01-2012 10:46 AM

Am up and ready. Get it started.

Jere26 07-01-2012 10:50 AM

10 more mins. C'mon GMJoe & Tom.

Never too early. ;)

If Joe can find this year's Ryder, I will be a happy camper.
