Bob/Mason... start drinking CBJ fans.

Stop winnin' for Mackinnon.

Yet another underwhelming signing.

CapnCornelius 07-01-2012 01:11 PM

Horrible. This guy couldn't save us if Mason/Bobrovsky fail. If this is the last of the goalie moves, we are in trouble.

A guy like Desjardins, even with injuries, was a better option.

Signing a back-up for Springfield means doom?

Guess so, not sure what the problem is with this. They had to sign a 3/4 guy.

This is the "Sanford" signing from last season.... Mc will be the starter in Springfield and will be the first goalie called up in the event of an injury.

He'll be the three.... Not a bad move if they signed/traded for someone else to replace Mason... I thought thats why Bob was acquired.... We still need an NHL starter.

I think some of us see Steve Mason as the AHL goalie along with York, and we need a starter.

Socks 07-01-2012 01:18 PM

I know we needed to fill this hole. I just wish it was with anyone else

Maybe our expectations for him will be so low that any positives he bring will be seen as a success?

JacketsFanWest 07-01-2012 01:19 PM

Great goalie for Springfield. They really need a solid starter. The goaltending situation there was a mess last season.

If McBackup can pull a Sanford in the case of injuries, great. But I hope he rides the pine any time he's called up and spends most of his time in Springfield helping them get to the playoffs.

The problem is he apparently sucks. His career GAA is north of 3 (3.13). If he is the 5th okay but if he is 4th that makes York 3rd and that doesn't necessarily bode well. Not that York didn't work out but it was a very small sample.

Until Mason is waived and clears he is not an AHLer so you still need another goalie to go with York.

Fixed, ment to say 3/4.

1857 Howitzer 07-01-2012 01:31 PM

I had forgotten he was part of the Vermette trade.

Roadman 07-01-2012 01:36 PM

I think I would have preferred Dainton for SPR

Maybe still for Evansville

ernmorris 07-01-2012 01:38 PM

Thank goodness we got this 3/4 goalie situation squared away. This team has no other pressing needs. :sarcasm:

I didn't realize the signing period is already over.

C'mon, John. Take a look at the list of UFAs. Trust Howson to sign from the limited list that is left?

do you honestly think howson is gonna make a splash?

1857 Howitzer 07-01-2012 01:41 PM

Wonder where Dekanich will land now?

JacketsFanWest 07-01-2012 01:46 PM

I would have preferred a solid AHL who wanted a shot at the NHL, like Cedrick Desjardins, over McBackup. But it does provide the Jackets goalies with a veteran NHLer as a mentor and a goalie with NHL experience.

I could see Paul Dainton being resigned by the Falcons, but he may not have an NHL future. If the season started with McBackup/Dainton in Springfield and York in the ECHL, that gives York more starts and he can see AHL playing time when the injury bug hits.

If Mason gets traded/waived/bought-out/reassigned to a team in Siberia, then what happens with McBackup?
