Penner re-signs [1 yr, $3.25M]

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun

am told Penner has re-signed in LA... one year, north of $3 M

Shellz 07-01-2012 03:06 PM

Awesome!

Live in the Now 07-01-2012 03:07 PM

Good. And now I suppose we're done.

MxK1NGS 07-01-2012 03:09 PM

Glad it is a 1-yr deal.

CNS 07-01-2012 03:09 PM

Sigh. I'm so whatever on this deal. He was awful until this playoff run but he helped win us a cup so I'm not completely raging that he's back. Just glad it's only for one year.

Yes!

But that's not going to stop the Parise talk.

DryIslandBartender 07-01-2012 03:11 PM

:yo:

Pancakes for everyone!

DocWest 07-01-2012 03:14 PM

Good deal, I'm glad to have him back. :)

Quattro 07-01-2012 03:14 PM

1 yr is perfect - well done Dean and kudos to Penner proving how much he wants to be here

Vamos Rafa 07-01-2012 03:15 PM

Offseason...Mission accomplished.

Ziggy Stardust 07-01-2012 03:15 PM

Better to have a familiar face back who the team knows very well than to bring in someone who is going to absorb an insurmountable amount of cap space that could hamper the club's cap flexibility in the long run. Save those dollars for retaining Kopitar and Brown when their deals are up.

GKJ 07-01-2012 03:23 PM

Fair deal. Needs to return to 25-goal form though.

Sydor25 07-01-2012 03:24 PM

Officially $3.25 for 1 year.

Depends on which line he plays on. Gagne could be the 2nd line LW and get 15-25. Penner could be with Stoll and lewis and get 10-15.

DAkings20 07-01-2012 03:27 PM

Local IHOP's rejoice!

Monarchist 07-01-2012 03:28 PM

Great!

damacles1156 07-01-2012 03:32 PM

I would be happy if Penner scores 15 to 20. Baby steps, He is not going to be counted on for large amounts of Goals.

The name of the game is depth, it's better to have all four lines a Danger to score.

MsWoof 07-01-2012 03:33 PM

Perfect deal, 1 year tells him he has to step it up if he wants something longer after it's done, and $3.25 is exactly what he should be getting. He expected a pay cut but he wants to stay so it's ideal.

I just tweeted him saying I expect 50.

Barring a Bernier trade, they will bring back an identical roster from the regular season. (excluding Parse, who played less than 10 games)

Has this ever happened in the modern era?

alpa 07-01-2012 03:48 PM

I approve this, Now show us how much you want to be here Penner ..score some goals through the regular season will you and you just might become a Kings player in our hearts for ever. Hard work and nethitting and you will be fine.

They could always sign a defenseman and trade one. You know, if they wanted to.

jonrazor12 07-01-2012 03:49 PM

This is a great deal for both sides.

Penner gets a decent paycheck and the chance to prove to the world he can still play at a high level and earn himself another lucrative contract next season.

Kings temporarily plug their hole at LW. This is insurance in the case they don't get parise.

Since its a one year deal, the door is open to still go after parise, Suter, or semin.

DL is not done yet. He will be in the mix for all of the big three until they sign.

funky 07-01-2012 04:01 PM

I like it. Now sign Suter and we can get a great package for Bernier and Scuderi
