The Aeros sign goaltender Mike Brodeur/Lose Taffe and DiSalvatore

Since we have no minor leagues thread yet...

The Aeros have signed goaltender Mike Brodeur, according to GM Jim Mill. Brodeur posted a 2.40 GAA with the Aeros in the 2012 postseason.

Wild signed Brodeur. Nice. :sarcasm:

Hopefully this is purely for depth. I don't see how he wouldn't be in the ECHL unless the Aeros carry 3 tenders.

Re: the Mike Brodeur signing, Jim Mill said the deal was reached late last night. "...good depth signing - great AHL and NHL experience..."

I think he will play with Orlando.

He got an AHL/ECHL contract. The Wild can't recall him.

Ah. Go Bears!

Mike Brodeur deal w ‪#mnwild‬ is AHL deal. Provides depth. Likely to start in Orlando of ECHL. If I remember correctly, 1st ‪#nhl‬ win vs. Wild

Cya baby captain and former Gopher player.

Fel 96 07-02-2012 04:04 PM

Oh well, the Aeros will have a new captain next season.

Victorious Secret 07-02-2012 04:04 PM

No. Not Taffe. Oh well.

IHaveNoCreativity 07-02-2012 04:24 PM

Change is good, frees up space for our youngsters.

Would make sense given he was the captain in Manchester a few years ago.

Makes sense to sign another goalie so that if Hackett's running the show Kuemper can get work in the ECHL. Brodeur was in the Sens system for a couple years and Fletcher/Flahr are familiar with Murray.

He'd be taking ice time away from our plethora of prospects.

Same reason that DiSalvatore was allowed to move on.

IHaveNoCreativity 07-02-2012 10:03 PM

I don't get why Hershey loads up on the vets. Even more strange is how they still manage to develop the players..

I never really saw NHL potential in him on the Gophers which is mostly where I saw him. Saw about 90% of his games and while he was great in coollege, he just wasn't exceptional in any one area to be a top 6er in the NHL.

In college his biggest problem was that his stick was about an inch too small for him and he fanned on more pucks then I had ever seen before Miettenen.

Off the top of my head while he was there I would say that he had fantastic ability to find open space but at least players like Hirsch and Koalska had better hockey sense and Hirsch and Riddle were both better skaters as well and that's ignoring many of the other top players there at the time. J. Pohl was the far more dynamic player that played a similar style too IMO. Taffe's defensive skills weren't lacking but he never stood out to me as above average defensively at the college level and as a scorer he always came off as a top 6 or nothing kind of player to me.

Given some great developmental jumps he could have been great because he had a great nose for the net and had that natural shot to score, but it seems he just didn't have the natural gifts to beat NHL d men and play the same game he was used too. It was a worthy attempt by the Wild IMO but a lot of the time players just don't work out in a league as gifted as this.

Brodeur was really good for us when he played in Bingo and the few games he started with the big club.. thought he had lots of potential before we let him go.

IHaveNoCreativity 07-04-2012 01:39 PM

So Bingo behind Hacks ?

I could see Brodeur in Houston so Kuemper can get starts in the ECHL
