Yup, very nice! Let's see what the terms are like. I love the fact that it's 4 years. Hopefully O'Reilly's deal is something like that as well.

PeterTheGreat 07-02-2012 08:35 PM

Shweet.

S319R11S16 07-02-2012 08:35 PM

Nice guys.

BrickAHL 07-02-2012 08:35 PM

Thank god he isn't going to Philly.

R S 07-02-2012 08:36 PM

God that was a quick post. But yep, very excited. Deserves that long of a contract no doubt.

Deal takes Johnson to 28 when he'll be eligible for UFA...best yrs ahead of him
If everything works out, that next contract when he's 28 is for a boatload of money and some Norris nominations. :D

foppagirl21 07-02-2012 08:37 PM

Beautiful. I was hoping for a 4-5 year deal. Good for him!

The Pwnerer 07-02-2012 08:37 PM

I wonder if hes still a RFA after, but great nonetheless.

He will be a UFA after 4 years.

And he signs a 8 year deal in Detroit as a UFA:sarcasm:

JWK 07-02-2012 08:39 PM

Excited, hopefully somewhere around 5M or less per year.

BoxOfChocolates 07-02-2012 08:40 PM

He gets to enjoy the next 4 years playing with great talents such as Ryan Wilson and Shane O'Brien, must be pretty excited.

Foppa2118 07-02-2012 08:40 PM

Like the term, lets see about the money. Not more than $5 M and I'll be happy with it.

R S 07-02-2012 08:41 PM

I highly doubt it's for over $5 million. I would say average of 4.5.

I do too. $4.5 is likely the sweet spot. I wouldn't throw a fit if it was something like $4.8 M, that's what I meant.

Goulet17 07-02-2012 08:44 PM

I wonder if this is what Dater was referring to yesterday, as far as more Avs activity.

He's said many times lately that extensions with ej, mcginn and ror were close.

Joe Sakic 07-02-2012 08:45 PM

Wish the deal was longer. I hate seeing our players become UFA'a at the end of contracts lol

bohlmeister 07-02-2012 08:45 PM

That is either a poor deal for EJ or a poor deal for the Avs. I would have liked shorter term. He still hasn't proven to be anything more than a top 4. Either he will take the next step, and it is a poor deal for him, or he stays where he is at and hopefully for the Avs it is less than 5 mill. I am not a fan of rewarding player for potential, or paying money for what you hope he becomes. Again, hopefully it is less than 5 mill.

Me too, even though it's depressingly true.

He would be a UFA at any contract you'd want longer than 4 years...
