Real_ESPNLeBrun: Hearing that Jaromir Jagr has agreed to one-year, $4.5-million deal with the Dallas Stars

OMG

glasgow26 07-03-2012 05:42 PM

Jagr to the Stars. Yuck.

then wouldnt he be a rfa next year, if he was drafted with crosby and crosby hits ufa next year, and crosby went straight to the nhl

or did crosby's injuries cost him a year considered for UFA?

im likely wrong but someone wanna explain this?
the pens when they resigned crosby last time used up 1 of his ufa seasons, same thing goes for malkin who's contract comes up in 2 seasons.

Wow the Stars top 6 is starting to look pretty nice.

Chairman Mallard 07-03-2012 05:46 PM

sharkbite3 07-03-2012 05:48 PM

Clowe Me 07-03-2012 05:50 PM

he's not the prime Jagr.

HOOCH2173 07-03-2012 05:50 PM

@DarrenDreger

Taylor Pyatt also agrees to 2 year deal with the NYR.

Vertzedyek 07-03-2012 05:51 PM

no. no. :pout:

Arrch 07-03-2012 05:52 PM

I don't think I'm going to be using the excuse of we can't sign free agents because they don't want to sign here anymore.

Why not? Because of Jagr? Dallas is still closer to the East and Europe than San Jose is, correct me if I am wrong, but San Jose is the farthest west US team (talking longitude and latitude here). That = no man's land for players from East/Europe.

Jagr signing in Dallas is like when Blake (or Bernie Nicholls for that matter) signed here: an elite UFA past his prime. If it was an elite UFA in his prime, even Dallas wouldn't be an option.

I'd like to see if that changes when DW is no longer GM of this team.

My bet is that he still tears us up.

Damn, I thought he'd be a good signing for us.

Chairman Mallard 07-03-2012 05:55 PM

Jagr is a mercenary

Jagr clearly went for the money.
Whitney wanted an extra year.

I don't know what Doan will want, but I'm sure we won't give it to him.

The reason we don't sign free agents is because it goes against Wilson's philosophy.

It wasn't any different before DW, and IMHO won't be any different after DW.

Want to see elite UFA's in their prime sign with the Sharks? Move the team to the Northeast US and they definitely will. (Sad, but true)

Jagr, Whitney, Parenteau, Jokinen. I'm not talking about elite UFA's in their prime, I'm talking about non 3/4 line role players. Blake had ties to the area, so It wasn't that difficult to land him.

We'll see eventually.

sharski 07-03-2012 06:01 PM

LOL they're missing out... life is good here in the bay area

if you're from Russia or anywhere else in Europe, I don't see what the big difference is between San Jose and somewhere like Detroit... your'e still in a completely different country and not going home any time during the season
