The Official Jaromir Jagr Discussion Thread

The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed forward Jaromir Jagr to a one-year, $4.55 million contract for the 2012-13 season.

Jagr, 40, is one of the most prolific scorers in NHL history, placing first all-time in overtime goals (16), second in game-winning goals (114), eighth in points (1,653), 11th in goals (665) and 12th in assists (988). Among active NHL players, Jagr is first in points, goals, assists, plus/minus (+280) and game-winning goals (114), and second in games played (1346) and power play goals (189).

The native of Kladno, Czech Republic, spent the 2011-12 campaign with Philadelphia, placing third on the Flyers in points (54), assists (34) and power play goals (8), and fifth in goals (19).

"Jaromir Jagr is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the history of this league, and he demonstrated last season that he remains incredibly skilled, productive and valuable,” said Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk. “We see him fitting into our top two lines and contributing heavily to our offensive attack. We’re very excited about adding a player of Jaromir’s caliber to our club.”

So, so, so, so, so , SOOOOO in love with this deal. Been watching him since the day I started playing hockey. Absolute idol, even though I played defense ;)

Overpayment, but who cares. Awesome signing.

Gonna be so weird to see him in a Stars' jersey.

KiedisA 07-03-2012 04:49 PM

Hull Fan 07-03-2012 04:49 PM

holy ****. can't believe this happened. Wow. Still need some 3rd line help and hope this spells the of Morrow in Dallas. Morrow for Spooner. Make it happen Joe.

LoneStarHockey 07-03-2012 04:50 PM

Love this signing!

Hull Fan 07-03-2012 04:50 PM

We might actually have a functional power play this year. I don't know how to react to this.

Jere26 07-03-2012 04:50 PM

Wow, just wow. He's old and so, blah, blah. I can't believe it. So many childhood memories. Well done Joe. Pumped for next season. No more Morrow in Top 6. So much offensive firepower.

Hi Stars fans, I am a big fan of Jagr and I think he'll help a lot with your 30th ranked powerplay. He is a PP magician.

I know this was many years ago, but just look at these highlights on the PP.

I hope he does really well.

Tyskie 07-03-2012 04:51 PM

Was not expecting that.

So, with Whitney and Jagr in and Otter out...you guys foresee a coaching style adjustment here? Should have waited until the elation dies down, sorry, but just curious what the fans think...not exactly Selke winners in Whitney and Jagr here...thoughts?

ReverendAlBundy 07-03-2012 04:51 PM

Ahahaha wooooo!!!!!

I just let out a huge wooooo!! on the forklift

Satan 07-03-2012 04:51 PM

hello Jagr jersey

Alistar 07-03-2012 04:52 PM

Yeah we've overpaid for Whitney and Jagr, but god damn is this going to be one entertaining team to watch.

Now upgrade that defense and call it a summer Nieuwsy. You done well :)

Nemeth 07-03-2012 04:53 PM

craaaaaaaaaazy! Really stoked about this season :yo:

It's only for 1 year, all or nothing!

Ryp37 07-03-2012 04:53 PM

Man you guys are going to have a fun team to watch next season

Why is that important? Our PP was the worst ever in franchise history last season. The additions of Whitney, Roy, and Jagr help that immensely. There are pieces to handle the defensive aspect of the game in Morrow, Eriksson, Benn, Fiddler, Nystrom, and Vincour.

Alistar 07-03-2012 04:54 PM

Gulutzan is like 4 months older than Jagr

should be an interesting room with some of these veteran presence guys.

Vincour must be over the moon

CRSeven 07-03-2012 04:54 PM

So happy right now.

Elysian 07-03-2012 04:55 PM

Wow. I like.

aisforaaron83 07-03-2012 04:56 PM

Wow, talk about a dream that comes true about 10 years late! Still awesome though. Great that it is a one-year deal. PP on paper looks dangerous. Benn has to high fiving everyone he meets right now. Him and Roy both will play with quality wingers. Just awesome.

Isn't that the point though? Need to get to the floor.
