Wild get Suter AND Parise

I don't have links, but they're on the main board, and this probably deserves its own thread.

Holy **** what is going on :amazed:

Janks 07-04-2012 11:25 AM

I posted this in the Around the NHL thread.

But here's the link.

Wild just got one hell of a lot better

Xelstyle 07-04-2012 11:26 AM

This almost deserves it own thread me thinks. But still.

****. Things got a lot tougher in the NW.

DBU 07-04-2012 11:28 AM

Both of them on 13 year deals.

$98 million for Parise, holy ****

Xelstyle 07-04-2012 11:30 AM

Parise - Koivu - Granlund
Heatley - Cullen - Setoguchi
Mitchell - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Powe - Konopka - Kassian/Veilleux

Suter - Gilbert
Scandella - Brodin
Spurgeon - Stoner

Taken from the Wild forum. Missing a 2C and possibly another D vet and that's close to being a contender...

RobBrown4PM 07-04-2012 11:30 AM

Sorry Flames fans, but your team just got given notice that their in for it pretty bad this year.

Col, Van, Edm and now Minnie have all significantly upgraded their teams this off season, or already had great teams to begin with. I can't see the Flames being competitive in the division at all this year.

Flamesarmstrong22 07-04-2012 11:31 AM

our division is no longer a joke..... except for the oilers of course ;)
but all seriusness the west has gotten alot better this offseason. minny obviusly just got alot better, i think dallas has gotten better and right there is 2 teams who missed the playoffs last year who have gotten a lot better. its going to be a real tough race for the flames this year......

DBU 07-04-2012 11:31 AM

I don't even expect to compete this year at all now.

Suter gets the same $98 million over 13 years. Christ.

Johnny Hoxville 07-04-2012 11:33 AM

Holy ****, I am utterly shocked. I thought ZP to the Pens was a done deal.

TherapyforGlencross 07-04-2012 11:34 AM

Well, there goes the season, it looks like.

DBU 07-04-2012 11:34 AM

;)

Money Baer 07-04-2012 11:37 AM

Good for them.

They are going to be a good team for a long, long time.

Parise, Suter, Koivu, Seto.

Granlund, Dumba, Coyle, Zucker, Phillips, Brodin.

Building through the draft, building through trades, and now FA..

CGYPUKSUX 07-04-2012 11:39 AM

Now is it time to blow it up? Holy smokes, we're going to be the whipping boy of the division me thinks. Iginla's decision might have just been made for him. I do not see any way, shape or form, this team can compete with Vancouver or Minnesota right now, and Minnesota and Edmonton have potential to be powerhouses the next five years or more. We're in serious trouble.

MarkGio 07-04-2012 11:40 AM

I'm actually happy for Minny. Hopefully this makes things tighter in the division. People say it's a bad thing for us but I see it as a good thing. With Minny, Colorado, Oilers all better, this means Western teams like San Jose, Detroit, Nashville, Chicago, etc will lose more games to N.W teams. We'll likely lose more games too however. Less variance is good for the game.

FlamingTelepath 07-04-2012 11:41 AM

Crazy stuff. I think we'll hate this team vehemently in a few years if they stay in the NW.

I know you're just trolling, but:

Colorado signed PA Parenteau.
Canucks replaced Salo with Jason Garrison.
Edmonton has two new rookies.

That's not exactly on the level on signing Parise and Suter.

I don't know. Maybe I haven't been following Minnesota enough or something, but that line-up looks pretty unimpressive to me. They seem to have 4 or so decent scorers surrounded by a bunch of grinders. It makes me wonder why both of them picked there to play. I can't imagine Minny has much in the way of salary cap space after those 2 signing either.

yeah, they don't have that much to play around with, only about 500k left.

Volica 07-04-2012 11:50 AM

I feel a Knee-Jerk response coming from Calgary; it was tough enough grabbing #2 spot in the NW div... Now it's going to be much, much more difficult.

Although we know a couple FA signings doesn't make Minny an automatic favorite, they drafted extremely well and this might just be the icing on the cake. Time to go all out Mr. Feaster, because Calgary looks all kinds of behind now.

Troooolllllololol.

None the less,
We'll still be taking the majority of games from Colorado + Edmonton. Colorado isn't even close to being there with the D they have, and Edmonton isn't even close to being there with the age + D they have.

Minny and Vancouver will be interesting.

My thoughts exactly. Colorado adds Parenteau, Zanon and Mitchell and all of a sudden are "significantly upgraded".

You're forgetting that Mitchell = Johnny Malkin

Yeah this is nonsense. Vancouver always has several D like Garrison. If they trade Luongo that's not going to make them a better team either. They're peaked at how good they can be in the regular season.

Minnesota is now approximately as good on paper as Chicago or San Jose... Not really that scary. This just increased the number of bubble playoff teams in the West. Nashville and Detroit got weaker, Minnesota got stronger.

Edmonton added a guy out of college?

Colorado still sucks.

Just a troll lol.

However, I do have to state one thing:
The top 8 in the West were good last year, now add in Minny as someone who will be fighting for top spot in the NW, Dallas who might end up being better (or worse, I think Ott was a terrible trade for them)... Looks like a lot of teams will be fighting for those spots out West here..

If Flames want to even be near that picture, Feaster has two months to make the lineup look a lot better... Because I can't see this one being a top contender.

You're exactly right, both Parise and Suter texted Heatley to ask him "can we win"

The fact is they were a bottom 5 team in the west before and they're a 6-8 seed now.

Flamefan1 07-04-2012 12:03 PM

The NW Division just got alot harder.
