The frenzy has begun! :scared:

MeestaDeteta 07-05-2012 06:06 PM

Very interested to see the term. I believe he will still be a RFA after this contract.

Namtsua 07-05-2012 06:06 PM

Awesome   Now for Gags!

SK13 07-05-2012 06:06 PM

This one can be in the $3M range.

402 07-05-2012 06:06 PM

Great I wonder why not 3 or even 4 years though

OilerTyler 07-05-2012 06:06 PM

A 3 year signing would've taken him to unrestricted free agency. I believe he will still be an RFA after this contract.

That's good news.

zeus3007* 07-05-2012 06:07 PM

Good. A deal that keeps him locked up as an RFA still. Me likey.

Very.

We should know one way or the other what exactly he is in his last RFA season. That's the time to evaluate what he is worth long term.

Would have liked to have seen longer term but guess they dont want to give out a gilbert contract again. Nice that he will still be rfa. Dollars will be interesting. Dont think he would have taken less than 3m per.

Yep, 2 years makes sense. 2.9m per?

I'm a huge Jeff Petry fan, very happy this got done.

MeestaDeteta 07-05-2012 06:10 PM

With players like Petry, I would much rather give shorter term deals and make them earn the richer contracts. Don't want another Gilbert situation on our hands.

s7ark 07-05-2012 06:10 PM

Excellent. Next we lock up Gags and then poach Weber with a 1yr deal. :D

MeestaDeteta 07-05-2012 06:10 PM

I'm guessing $2.85M per

dustrock 07-05-2012 06:10 PM

Good work!

What we wouldn't want another quality dman locked up at better than market value price longterm? Look at what Carle just got, Gilbert wasn't overpaid. That was a good contract.

Koto 07-05-2012 06:15 PM

ExOilerFan 07-05-2012 06:15 PM

I'll guess 3.25

"Big day for Jeff Petry as he re-signs with Edmonton just hours before his wedding rehearsal dinner. Getting married this weekend."
