Meeting Players

Off topic entirely, but has anyone met any of the Flames players/personnel in a casual environment?

I met Craig Conroy tonight at Nashville North and he is legitimately one of the coolest, friendliest people I have ever met. He took pictures with me and my girlfriend, and even chatted with us for a couple minutes.

Sorry if this is too off key, but I'd just like to her other peoples experiences with Flames players/staff.

I met three of the Staal brothers. Very nice, but they were very quiet.

When I worked at Best Buy, i met Langkow, Kipper, and Nolan when he was a Flame. A lot of Flames bought their computers/tvs from our store.

BVicious 07-06-2012 08:38 AM

I used to party with Dustin Boyd, Eric Nystrom and David Moss. And I grew up with Lanny's kids and played on his pond all the time growing up. I met all the team in 89 and held the cup too.

Janko Unchained 07-06-2012 09:15 AM

I met Rene Corbet back in 2000 (you might remember him from the Theo Fleury trade) when I was just a kid. Also met former Flames Jim Peplinski and Perry Berezan when I was a kid.

Saw Craig Conroy once, but was more at a distance. My old co-worker has met Nolan, Regehr, Marleau and a couple other NHLer's that aren't coming to mind rightaway

Played against a 16 year old Getzlaf in a floor hockey game.

About two weeks ago I bought Jarome Iginla his coffee.

I was at Starbucks on 16th ave, and he walked in wearing his Kamloops Blazer hat. I was starstruck. I realized it was him, and went up. Instead of just being the typical fan and asking for autographs/pictures, I told him it would be an absolute honour if I could grab his drink (even though he didn't need me to too) and that i respected him a lot. He smiled and accepted the offer, and we talked while he waited for his drink.

Best day of my life.

My dad was a goalie in junior and his back up goalie was glen healy. He also went on to be a coach and coached Keith primeau (who he got in a fight with and knocked primeau out) actually my dad said in junior that primeau was known around his league for being the biggest dick. He also coached kris draper and some other NHL people I can't think of.

Oops, forgot about this one. I've seen Conroy from a distance as well.

Saw Theo Fleury at the Chinook centre by the starbucks near the foodcourt. Smaller guy than I would have thought. Almost ran into Todd Bertuzzi by the ship and anchor while running across the street during a weekend night out. Met Andy Moog and Glen Anderson at Pentiction hockey school. Anderson signed my skates and I wore autographed skates for the better part of my minor hockey playing time. Saw Glencross at the Red Water Grill on Macleod Trial dining with his family. I tried to pretend like I was lost to walk by his table but it was in a corner and they all looked at me like they knew exactly what I was doing. So out of all those, I met Anderson and Moog and creeped on the others.

Forgot to say this. When my family used to live in Calgary, Theo Fluery used to be our neighbor.. Only saw him like once or twice..

I remember texting you about how I saw him, and I was too much of a chicken **** to approach probably one of the most approachable guys in hockey  . Your reaction when Pat Steinberg showed up at Loco Lou's that night was lol worthy, too.

I forgot to mention, when Adrian Aucoin played in Calgary I was sitting next to him at a set of lights and I looked over and he glimpsed so I just gave a quick "Go Flames go!" Before my light turned green.

 I remember all of this. The Lou's incident was ridiculous though because I was still floored by the fact that Steinberg was good friends with like half the people we were there with.

Sean Monahan 07-06-2012 01:26 PM

lol Loco Lou's

Great spot for a greasy time

True story, bro. That was pretty awesome.

Edit: DuckSauce's location is awesome. Just saying.

That's pretty cool. A close friend of mine worked on Mike Green's car (I believe it was/is an Aston Martin) when he brought it to the Bentley dealership for some work. Another friend of mine was working for Brydon stairs (which is near where I used to work) and said he met Neon Dion at the Fas Gas on 12th st NE, near McKnight.

When I worked in Toys R Us one year, Craig Conroy bought a Wii from me :D

FlamesFan6612 07-06-2012 02:16 PM

Met Theo Fleury at the Play On tournament a couple of years ago, really nice guy.

BVicious 07-06-2012 02:19 PM

I used to see Theo at the Grey Eagle Casino, and it's complete ******** if he says he sober.

Met jay Boumeester at a golf
tournament.

Flameshomer 07-06-2012 04:26 PM

I met stevie Y and Nik lidstrom coming back from dinner outside the sheraton downtown during the playoffs the day before Yzerman got hit in the eye with the puck. Nicest guys ever. I felt bad because we almost made them late for curfew but they chatted with us for a bit, even though we were clearly flames fans. It was awesome. Two absolute legends.
