Vlasic's new deal: When and how much??

With the crazy amount of $$$$ being thrown around lately for Dmen, when does DW try and lock-up Pickles?? Before the season or somewhere in between the start and finish? I think he gets a deal done sooner than later. Do you think MEV will want a NTC/NMC in his next deal? Isnt there a specific number of years a player has to play in order to get a NTC/NMC?? Does Pickles qualify? Who is his agent and is he a hard-baller? Open market Vlasic gets $5mil easy. I'd like to see something along the lines of a 4-5 yr deal with a $4.5aav.

Kitten Mittons 07-06-2012 12:50 PM

4-6yrs 4.5m

Sharkway Drive 07-06-2012 12:55 PM

I feel 4.5m is a little too much for a shut down defenseman with little to no offense. If Vlasic is paired with Burns this year (or Weber :naughty:) an he puts up 35 + points then he could easily get 4.5.

Where he is right now i'd be more comfortable giving him 3.75-4m.

SactoShork 07-06-2012 12:57 PM

I think $4.5 million is the ceiling for a defenseman who can't put up points.

MadmanSJ 07-06-2012 01:06 PM

I would trade Pickles before I traded Boyle. Let someone else figure out how much to pay him.

He will likely be paired with burns next season, so expect a 30+ point season. Should deffinetly get him signed now

SJeasy 07-06-2012 01:08 PM

A first pairing shutdown (<20pts/year) is worth $4.5mil/year. That is being well on the plus side against top qualcomp for the year. Vlasic has stretches where he fits the descriptor. To go north of $4.5mil, he needs to approach 35pts. It is based on comps even for UFAs. The only UFAs who beat the number are the guys who are top of market (top 3 to 5 dmen, top 3 to 5 forwards) in that year's UFA class.

But didn't Pickle post some nice #'s (6g/30a) when paired with Blake?? If paired with Suter I would imagine those numbers returning. 4.5 would be a steal for a shutdown/30+ pt dman...

I know you mean Weber ...

From what Easy said in the post before .. 4.5 M sounds fair for Pickles.

If Vlasic is paired with any offensive defenseman besides puck hogging boyle I'm sure he could easily put up 35+ points again. DW usually does very good signing homegrown talent, that's why I'm hoping for a better deal.

Mafoofoo 07-06-2012 01:24 PM

Looking at current NHL trends I expect 10-12 years at 4M per.

Kinda crazy that still only takes him to 35.

TheJuxtaposer 07-06-2012 01:35 PM

4 years, $16M with a full NTC is what I hope for.

I think that would be amazing as long as no NTC/NMC without limitations like Boyle's). With how things are going, that would be a steal in just a few years and pretty much market now or even low market.

Sharksfan83 07-06-2012 01:58 PM

It's Doug Wilson.

4 years, 16-18 Million, NTC.

It would be a huge contract for DW but maybe worth while going to 6 Years, 24 - 30 Million.

I want Pickles locked up. Whoever he plays with plays better, and that's a sign of a special player. It was funny watching the boards last season. We would rag on Boyle when he wasn't paired with Vlasic, and then the next month we'd rag on Burns when he wasn't paired with him.

VP and GM 07-06-2012 02:50 PM

4 years, 16 - 17m.

Good guess. Both sides may want less years however, Vlasic is still young enough to earn that big payday

Iron Chef 07-06-2012 03:56 PM

DW has gone as high as 6 years in a contract (Michalek). I'd like to see Vlasic get that at 4.25m

Nighthock 07-06-2012 04:06 PM

38 yrs. @ 12.7 mil. cap hit

ramstoria 07-06-2012 04:52 PM

5 years with a cap hit around 4-4.5m I would expect. He could get at least that on the open market.

FeedingFrenzy 07-06-2012 05:35 PM

Sharks have 12 players under contrct for 13-14 season. Leaving us 20mil in cap.Players who should get new deals:

Vlasic-4.5mil x 5
Demers-2mil x 3 gambling here alittle but if he gets to form a steal yrs 2/3.
Galiardi-900k guessing arb gives him 2yr/1.8mil deal
Desjardins-800k slight raise after proving his worth

that leaves us 12mil to sign minimum 4 players. Ofcorse if DW goes out and nabbs a UFA like Semin this year the Sharks could offer him a 3yr/18mil and be ok cap wise as long as Clowe is traded this year along with Murray.

Probably depends on the new CBA, but market value is likely in the $5.0m AAV range over 5 years. Some comparables:

Carle 6 yrs $33m $5.5m AAV
Paul Martin 5 yrs $25m $5.0m AAV
Volchenkov 6 yrs $25.5m $4.25m AAV

Anything less, and if I'm Vlasic I test free agency, especially after what Carle got...and I'd pay it, because you guys have a good one that most teams would kill for.

Kitten Mittons 07-06-2012 07:43 PM

Michalek is at 4m and he is the best comparable.

Carle and Martin are not comparables. They have a lot more points to their name at or near their free agent year than Vlasic does. Volchenkov is about where I'd expect Vlasic to be for a guy that hasn't cracked 25 points in the past three seasons.
