Ales Hemsky for Kyle Okposo

Why the Islanders do this? imagine Hemsky feeding Tavares all game and Ales is power play material.

Why the Oilers do this? Okposo adds some grit to Edmontons top six.

This will get interesting.

ichabod13 07-07-2012 02:59 AM

Hell no.

Honour Over Glory 07-07-2012 03:00 AM

Isles would be stupid to do this.

CaptainCrunch67 07-07-2012 03:20 AM

Must have missed something in the original offer Its Hemsky + what for Okposo?

lakai17 07-07-2012 03:22 AM

Okposo is younger and entering his prime, while people worry that Hemsky's injuries are catching up to him. Also Okposo has a better contract

Okposo's contract is backloaded. I'd be surpsrised if the Isles don't deal him before having to pay out the last couple years of it, tbh. (But not for Hemsky, they could definitely get better.)

Not that Okposo had a great season by any stretch of the imagination but Hemsky had a disappointing one.

I think it's a case that a 50 point Okposo > a 60 point Hemsky before you factor in contracts and it's not out of the question that's where both roughly end up(assuming Hemsky doesn't get injured again)

It will be interesting to see what happens if Okposo hits 60 points in the 3rd season of that deal. You could make the argument he is worth 4M & 5M then but would the Islanders be to cheap and dump him because of his low caphit

Not really.

Isles lost Parenteau because of $ and term. His $4m per was more then they could afford. They replaced him with Boyes, making $1m.

Isles are not interested in moving 24 yr old Okposo, who'll make $2m in 2012-2013 and $3m in 2013-2014.Especially not for Hemsky, who'll make $5m per in each of those seasons.

The Isles have a glut of picks/prospects,so no thanks on getting 1-2 sweetners.
Snow attempt to move so many picks for Columbus' 2nd overall, shows that after 4 yrs of stockpiling picks/prospects,he's done stockpiling them.

and before an Oiler fan suggests it,no thanks on any Gagner for Okposo swap.Isles would rather have Okposo's aggressive puck pursuit and work along the boards, then a smallish center who'll put up Frans Nielsen type numbers, at a higher salary.

Then shop him to a team that won't worry about both shoulders being surgically repaired and his $5m per season salary.

Isles saw in Okposo's first 2 months of the 2011-2012 season, how hard it can be for players coming back from major surgery. No interest in trading Okposo, now that he looks like he is back on track:0 goals in his first 15 games,24 goals in his last 65 games.

Okposo and JT are the future of that team. No way in hell this happens.

thadd 07-07-2012 07:20 AM

No way Edmonton does this. Okposo has been injury prone and has yet to do anything impressive. in the NHL.

Not true, he had one freak shoulder accident and scored 24 goals last year and despite getting off to a terrible start. He also played more with Frans Nielsen than John Tavares last season and is on a far batter contract that Hemsky's.

You don't know what you are talking about.

Okposo left college before the end of the 2007-2008 season, playing several games in the AHL and the last 9 games in the NHL season.
Other then 2010-2011 when he had preseason surgery and missed the first half of the season,I'm missing all his games lost due to injuries.

If Snow had $5m in his budget, to put towards a new player,I would think he'd be looking toward Yandle or Ryan

Okposo
2008-2009:65 games
2009-2010:80 games
2010-2011:38 games
2011-2012:79 games

Hemsky
2003-2004:71 games
2005-2006:81 games
2006-2007:64 games
2007-2008:74 games
2008-2009:72 games
2009-2010:22 games
2010-2011:47 games
2011-2012:69 games

StrongIslanders90 07-07-2012 08:21 AM

Okposo does not add grit ,so if that what your looking for you should ask for Matt Martin;)

:sarcasm:

WeridAl 07-07-2012 08:24 AM

If the NHL cap minimum is project to be around 54mil, NYI would have to add 6-7mil in salary. Some people say but there is going to be a new CBA, but if the league and NHLPA decide on a 50/50 revenue sharing split, the cap would drop 10%+ as would the players salaries. No matter what happens NYI is going have to add to reach the floor about 6mil. So Snow's budget argument doesn't fly here.

he's not a chippy/dirty player by any means but he does work the corners like a power forward.

Isles actual payroll was $36m this season. No one plays cap floor tricks like Snow and Wang:shakehead

Staples has said a couple of times, that Snow believes the cap floor will be going down in the new cba.Isles cap is at $47.7m with 19 players signed.Matt Martin is due a raise from his $800,000+ salary.Botta tweeted that Poulin($900,000)or Nilson ($1.7m),will be on the roster as the #2 goalie, with DiPietro as the #3.

Snow would sign a player over 35,giving him a low base salary+big unreachable bonuses, before paying Hemsky $5m.

The idea that Snow could not pay a healthier and more productive Parenteau $4m,but will pay Hemsky $5m,is unrealistic.

:sarcasm:

What Okposo provides is aggressive puck pursuit and physical play along the boards, behind the net.

It's not a coincidence that Tavares' best month of the season, was the month he had Okposo doing the grunt work on his line.22 pts in 13 games for JT.

We are more likely to see Okposo on Tavares rw,then Hemsky.

More garbage from Oiler fanboys. Hemsky has all the value of Simon Gagne. Read none. Don't you think Edmonton would have dealt by now him if they could have got a decent defenseman?

He's a gentle giant. No sandpaper here.

You're talking about Alex Hemsky, right?

crashthenet 07-07-2012 09:26 AM

Hemsky's a talented player but I don't see a match here. I think the Isles would more likely add Huselius and see what happens than move an asset at this point.
