EDM vs Detroit
Edmonton gets: Kyle Quincey
Detroit gets: Ales Hemsky Wings get the winger they need for Pavel. Edmonton gets a defenseman who can play lots of minutes and play on the powerplay. |
Hemsky is risky remember. Injuries.
This deal does not make sense for Detroit. They are in need of defensemen, are they not? Why would they deal one away?
Politely declined. Quincey isn't worth Hemsky even when factoring the injuries.
Personally I think the Oilers look at other options when acquiring a defenseman.
Agree with an earlier poster. Makes no sense for the wings to be trading away a d man at this stage. |
The problem here is that Detroit has 15 forwards under contract and only five defensemen. Makes no sense.
I don't think Hemsky is the winger for Datsyuk, they are both pass first playmakers. Plus I think Detroit needs the defense, having lost Lidstrom, Rafalski and Stuart in the last two years.

Unless Detroit gets some superstar expect Franzen and Nyquist to be Datsyuk's wingers.
The value is good, but the deal makes absolutely no sense from Detroit's POV. After this deal, their defense looks worse than Edmonton's.
Quincey is a good player, but Hemsky can and is usually a great one. I pass on this no questions. Not a terrible proposal considering how ridiculously low his value is on here, but i really don't think it's even close. Edmonton also really doesn't need a PP dman, we had one of the top units in the league last year and added J.Schultz.
Detroit can trade for another defenseman.
We have too many LHD and we need a RHD. We're keeping Kronwall. We need Ericsson's defense. So we can suit up Kindl as third pairing LD. Then we have White SMith and a RHD via trade. |
Not enough for me to deal Hemsky.
Edmonton could do worse.
The Oilers don't need nor want Quincey and Hemsky is not available, despite what you read on twitter.
Can Ales Hemsky play defense? If not, then what's the point?

I don't like this deal from either side to be honest |

Two pass first players can be a deadly combination. The puck possession would be great and they're both skilled enough to find the back of the net after playing catch with each other. As for the poster questioning why Detroit would do this: First you have to keep in mind that the original poster hates Quincey. The truth is though that trades are not as simple as you give us this and we'll give you that. So trading one defenceman for a forward and finding another defenceman or two in other trades, when that's your biggest need to begin with is pretty unlikely. I do agree with his idea of upgrading top 6 skill, however. Detroit's biggest weakness heading into last postseason ended up being not enough help up front when Datsyuk wasn't 100%. I just don't find it realistic that you trade an NHL defencemen, regardless of how much you dislike him, when you're already short one. |
Please just keep Hemsky for the sake of everyone except EDM fans
Not good for either team.

So you lose Lidstrom and Stuart, only to trade away Quincey? Doesn't make sense.
