Jim Vandermeer

Anyone know what's going on with him? What kind of term/money is he looking for?

He'd probably be more than happy to just a sign a 1way contract.

DuckEatinShark 07-10-2012 12:13 AM

He should get less than $1 million a year. Basically at this point he should take whatever contract a team offers him.

There were times he was a healthy scratch for us and spent some time playing on our 4th line. Solid, gritty bottom-pairing defenseman just trying to make a living.

Mrb1p 07-10-2012 12:23 AM

I'd give him a contract. Albeit cheap.

Tyler Biggs 07-10-2012 12:48 AM

I would like to see him on the Leafs as a bottom pairing-7th defenceman.

JayP812 07-10-2012 12:53 AM

Was very average this season. He might get a tryout spot with a team looking for bottom pairing D.

lakai17 07-10-2012 03:52 AM

Chicago should bring in Vandy again!!

or Winnipeg!!

joestevens29 07-10-2012 10:17 AM

I assume he'd take whatever he can get at this point in his career.

Adam Spylo 07-10-2012 05:59 PM

I'd prefer him over Bouillon for the Habs. Hope he signs a contract for next season.

ninetynine* 07-11-2012 04:27 PM

I hope he's back somewhere next year.

Kershaw 07-11-2012 04:28 PM

I only know this guy as the player who made that sick bank pass to Eberle for his first goal. lol

hateseed 07-11-2012 05:12 PM

I thought he should have been ahead of White on the depth chart. Sharks HC obviously disagreed. Depth defenseman, probably not serviceable as a perm bottom pairing guy. 900k-1M.

Vandermeer's a scary dude. He's not quite big enough to be an NHL heavyweight, but he's completely fearless. There was one game and he fought Lucic and after taking a couple punches, Vandermeer smiled at him.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Jim Vandermeer is part of a massive hockey-playing family? He has 5 hockey-playing brothers: Peter (played 2 NHL games, many AHL games, still playing in Chinook Hockey League); Ted (played in the CHL minor pro league); Bill (played in the CHL minor pro league); Dan (played predominantly in the ECHL with 2 AHL games); and Joe (played predominantly in the ECHL with one year in a Division 2 German league).

Dude, we have like 9 of those.

I'd rather have him as the number 7 than having Ness or Donovan in the press box.

Trade Gunner for something, sign Vandermeer, 2 of Holzer, Vandermeer, Komi will get bottom pairing spots while the other guy becomes our 7th defenceman.

Find somebody else, I already have dibs on him.

Trade Gunnar to clear space for Vandermeer? Genius.

Yeah, I'm being ridiculous. Okay champ

Trade Gunner to fill another hole, sign Vandermeer or possibly Hannan as they are pretty much the only 2 UFA's available that add sandpaper and can actually play.

That's all great and fun, but who do you suggest moves into the top 4 to take his place that can also actually play reliable defense? If we're moving out D to fill holes up front, Gunnarsson makes the least amount of sense after Gardiner and Phaneuf. I'd look at moving Franson (preferably Liles) before moving any of them.

No you're just not that bright and I have to over explain myself to you.

We need sandpaper in the lineup, a guy like Vandy provides it, Gunner doesn't.

Gunner is coming off a pretty solid season, so he could fetch a good return, trade him and fill another hole in the lineup, then sign a guy like Vandy because he provides sandpaper and is a bottom pairing defenceman, so he will come relatively cheap. Let Vandy and Komi and Holzer battle for the 2 bottom pairing spots, and whoever loses gets put in the press box. Vandy fills a need as he is a stay at home physical defenceman, the type of player Carlyle likes.

Not once did I ever say trade Gunner away to make room for Vandy, you just put words in my mouth (not enough excitement in your life, gotta get into argument with someone over the internet?) I said trade Gunner away to fetch us something in return, and then sign Vandy because he fits perfectly as a bottom pairing-7th defenceman who plays the game Carlyle likes and fills a need for us.

Not enough excitement in my life (regardless of the fact that you have some new redundant thread started on here every other hour like clockwork) so I start Internet fights for fun, but you're the one throwing around insults. Smooth operator right here, ladies and gentlemen.
