Wow.

Seriously? I get the backstory, but it's a completely different country at this point. There are plenty of Jews living in Germany now. Hell, Berlin is one of the world's biggest international cities that hosts a ton of different cultures.

For those of us who are work-blocked, anybody care to summarize?

Isn't this on the heels of Germany banning circumcision? No joke...

It's an OTL piece about Evan Kaufmann who played at Minnesota and has gone on to play pro hockey in Germany and eventually for the German National Team.

He's also Jewish and his grandfather survived the Holocaust.

Before Hitler's rise, there were around 500,000 Jews in Germany.

Today there are around 200,000. But, Germany has the only growing Jewish population in Europe.

Yeah, like I said I understand the backstory. WW2 history is one of the most interesting things to me. What doesn't make sense to me is this:

"Should Jewish-American hockey player Evan Kaufmann continue playing in Germany despite the fact many family members were killed in the Holocaust?"

Why the hell shouldn't he? Unless he has some problem with it, which he clearly doesn't from his interviews, why even ask that? To me this is trying to make some kind of dramatic story out of nothing.

I agree, if he doesn't care then it shouldn't matter. It's a completely personal issue.

Fun fact....
He's playing for the Nürnberg Icetigers now, and the Arena is right beside the Reichsparteitagsgelände, where Hitler held many of his rallies.
