Los Angeles Kings Win ESPY for Best Upset

Mixed feelings about this award.

But its nice to be recognized.

bobafettish* 07-11-2012 09:55 PM

was the upset over vancouver or winning the cup? dont really think vancouver going down was that big of an upset to be honest.

Ziggy Stardust 07-11-2012 09:57 PM

I'd say the biggest upset is the Kings winning an ESPY award.

yup!

But i still think its a good thing for hockey, that they actually beat out all the college bball games.

It would mean alot more if all the fans voted for the Kings for best team...but chances are it will go to NY GIants....

Sorry for the screw-up on the thread title, should be "biggest upset" and the way it was phrased was...

"LA Kings vs. NHL Playoffs" no ****.

That's why I have mixed feelings...Jonathan Quick said it best in an earlier tweet:

Jonathan Quick ‏@JonathanQuick32 Seriously through, anyone can upset anyone on any given day, ‪#lakings did it for 2 months ‪#bestupset ‪#espys ‪#throwthefellasavote

Ron 07-11-2012 10:04 PM

Correct my earlier correction, guess it was "best upset."

Hmmmm...doesn't sound right. Whatever.

Dustin Brown said it was his "second favorite piece of hardware he won this Summer." Nice. :)

KBA4life 07-11-2012 11:24 PM

Damn right

2 awards from an espn popularity contest is not too shabby, since a lot of people weren't even expecting 1 this is a nice haul

I certainly was not expecting this. Its nice for the kings to get recognition outside the hockey community. :handclap:

EDIT**: I see TSN has a video of Brown accepting the award but its for Canada only :(

The crazy moment when a hockey team wins an ESPY

A #8 seed knocking off the number 1, 2 & 3 seeds and then winning the championship 4-2.... going 16-4 overall in playoffs? Losing only 1 game on the road?

What other sporting event in the last year was that big of an upset?

Hopefully, this is just the start of the Kings playing well and being an expected high PO seed, so when they win, it won't be viewed as an upset.

Hey, I was ecstatic with the 5-gm "upset" of Vancouver - the rest was just gravy!

It's not really an upset when the team dominates every series like that. Clearly, the Kings were the better team in every single series, and they were actually favored in rounds 3 and 4.

Sure, if you look at it from a "pure standings" point of view, #8 seed, knocking off #1,#2,#3, yada yada etc. then of course its an upset!

But if follow hockey closely (not saying you don't, of course, I'm saying a lot of fringe fans are like that), then you will know the Kings underachieved for of the season and then just kicked everyone's ass after that (like they should have, all season long).

In that sense, no way was it an upset.

But as I said above, its nice to be recognized as a champion, anyway.

Miami winning the best team? Now that was a joke but then again so are the ESPYS! Who were the other Nominies? I don't even care to watch an award show that gets everything wrong.

Rod Buskas* 07-12-2012 06:10 PM

I was stunned that they won. Even more shocking, they aired it on the broadcast.

Feels good to be a Champ :)

The Kings beating out the Miami heat as best team would've been the biggest upset. All things being equal, if you look at the teams up for best team, the Kings doing what they did in the playoffs trumped what the star filled favorite Heat did...by a landslide.

Did the _ucks win any ESPYs in 2008?

EDIT: I had no idea I made a typo. I meant to say 2007.
