Locked out much?

Poll to close 9/15/12.

Check the box... Maybe discuss here as well?

LadyStanley 07-14-2012 10:54 PM

First, what it there's a strike (but not a lockout)?

Second, what if one doesn't happen "on" (or about) 9/15?

Third, it's kinda OT for Sharks board to discuss CBA (there are already half a dozen threads at the Business of Hockey board discussing the CBA -- negotiations, options, news, etc.)

landshark 07-14-2012 10:57 PM

I considered using "work stoppage"

Would that have been non-specific enough?

I just mean will things get worked out before the old one expires. plus there's been some discussion in the armchair thread so i figured maybe it was time to have a thread around here about it.

We have a fiery relationship.

Bizz06 07-14-2012 11:07 PM

i highly doubt it, at this point I think the very worst case scenario is they decide to play 12-13 under the same CBA as the last one while they continue to work out a deal.

landshark 07-14-2012 11:11 PM

For the record i think it's a complete possibility there's some sort of work stoppage. Talking about money and well, there's only two things wars are fought over. Money is one of them. So, i don't expect either side to give in. But, can they get some sort of compromise together in time?

Here's some info about the recent proposal from the owners:

Some interesting contract limiting type requests.

Expect the worst, hope for the best.

VP and GM 07-14-2012 11:33 PM

not off to a good start, lock out at this time.

Pinkfloyd 07-14-2012 11:34 PM

I wouldn't worry about it.

slocal 07-14-2012 11:38 PM

I'm ever the optimist. Just let me talk to both sides and I'll make them friends again

If there is a lockout I would like to invite you all to become fans of my beer league team :)

Grow a mullet like your avatar and it's a deal.

I like how every one is so worried after seeing some of the stuff the nhl asked for with there proposal. The nhl knows at the very best they might get 0 of those proposals as they are.

I bet any money the nhlpa will come back with 64% of revenues, 21 years old for ufa, no limit on contract lenghts.

Mafoofoo 07-15-2012 12:07 AM

Hopefully not, but anything can happen. Worst case I'll have to start watching AHL/SEL/KHL games.

sharski 07-15-2012 12:10 AM

I'm locked out of voting in the poll

does that count? :m-mad:

No. Technically you don't even exist yet...

MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

Another lockout could ruin the NHL. This helps no one, won't happen.

Slurms McKenzie 07-15-2012 12:39 AM

This. It looks like the owners aren't interested in a win-win agreement. They are going to use all of their leverage to get whatever they can. The players made a huge concession last time giving in to a cap. It's been really good for the game. Now the owners are pressing hard on them agian. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the players draw a line in the sand.

landshark 07-15-2012 10:18 AM

is there actually a clause in the current CBA that would allow an extension in case both sides can't agree by the time next season would start?

This season could have been played under the old CBA. Both sides had the option end the old CBA and force negotiations. The owners chose to end the old CBA. At this point, there is no binding agreement.

AIUI, the agreement ended regardless. However, they can continue under the old agreement until a new agreement is reached no matter how long it takes.

Despite the extremes of the NHL proposal, we aren't seeing the confrontational style that characterized the last negotiation . . . yet. IMO, there is still hope.

I wouldn't answer the above poll because the best way to address it is to discuss it as the odds of a work stoppage. Right now, I would put it at 50/50.

MarleauApologist 07-15-2012 03:37 PM

They will not have a lockout.
