Kulda signed by Sibir Novosibirsk (KHL)

Per the team website.

http://www.hcsibir.ru/

Know it has been discussed elsewhere, but figured this deserved its own thread.

The Jets retain his NHL rights, right? How does his RFA status work now?

Hank Chinaski 07-15-2012 10:17 AM

Pretty apathetic about this.

I know others feel Kulda has nice potential, but I just haven't seen it. His timing and positioning looked average at best, especially for a guy who figures to be a defensive dman in the NHL. Really didn't see much that differentiated him from Flood or Festerling, the only difference is that Kulda is younger and may improve.

Always sucks to see an asset lost for nothing. Then again, Kulda was passed through waivers last season, and nobody bit. So I can't be the only one who doesn't really see him projecting in the NHL.

I believe the Jets retain his rights. But they have to sign him before December 1st, otherwise he is ineligible to play in the NHL for the remainder of the season. Plus he would have to pass through waivers should he opt to return to the NHL.

Good news for Redmond!
I guess Kulda was hurt that #44 was now taken.

bigplay41 07-15-2012 10:19 AM

So we lost an AHLer to the KHL? Oh well lol

Thrashers94 07-15-2012 10:27 AM

I called this about a month ago, he was wanting a 1-way deal like Postma I'm sure.

Hank Chinaski 07-15-2012 10:29 AM

A translated quote from Kulda on the team website:

Quote:

After the end of the season 2011/2012 began to think about employment opportunities in the KHL. I talked with several clubs, but the offer of "Siberia" was the best and most interesting to me. So now looking forward to his arrival in Novosibirsk.
Sounds like he had his eyes on the KHL from the get-go.

I'm with you. To me, he could have been a serviceable bottom-pairing D in the NHL, but he's entirely replaceable, even from within our own pool.

There was that article awhile back someone posted where he said it was the NHL or KHL for him this year; since he probably told management that, it seems entirely possible the Jets shopped him to see if anyone wanted him on an NHL deal, and didn't get any takers.

Anyway, best of luck to him.

King Woodballs 07-15-2012 10:37 AM

Kinda sucks
We will find a replacement

Hank Chinaski 07-15-2012 10:38 AM

Well, guess we need to carve out another spot for our prospect rankings!

Knock out #10, push everyone below up 1 spot and have an additional vote to file up the extra spot.

blues10 07-15-2012 10:45 AM

Siberia seems like a nice fit for Randy Jones.

Good luck to Kulda in the KHL. I thought he was a good depth player that still had potential upside at age 23.

Are the Jets leading the league in KHL signings?

That's what I figure I'll do. Although technically, since the Jets still hold his rights, he could still be considered part of the prospect pool.

Perhaps a vote to determine if Kulda should still be considered a Jets prospect? :sarcasm:

We've had two that were in NA move over, right? Stapleton and Kulda? Then no. Scanning the list of this year's free agents (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1159847) a bunch of teams have had at least two players that were in NA sign in the KHL or Europe this year, almost all AHLers.

Gump Hasek 07-15-2012 10:54 AM

I like Kulda but Redmond probably has the brighter future of the two within the organization. Postma steps up, Redmond now on deck.

Good luck to Kulda.

Le Golie 07-15-2012 11:02 AM

I don't blame him for giving up on his NHL dream. He'll be 24 years old in a few days and he has never been able to crack an NHL roster, this year wasn't looking good for him either.

He was apparently a really good guy. The Ice Caps will miss him but the Jets really won't.

Thanks for the info.

WJG 07-15-2012 11:14 AM

I would have rather had Kulda this year than Clitsome.

Paradise 07-15-2012 11:45 AM

And to think that people actually voted for him on our boards top 10 prospects, lol. At best he's a bottom pairing d-man. At worst he's playing in Siberia.

Lynk 07-15-2012 11:56 AM

I Kulda sworn he was going to re-sign.

SCP Guy 07-15-2012 12:16 PM

Another reason to draft only Canadians!!!!

Puckschmuck* 07-15-2012 01:03 PM

Does anyone know of players from other teams signing with the KHL this year? This is what, number two or three for us, and I'm just wondering if this is a trend going around the league right now.
