Oilers re-sign Peckham (1year/$1.075M)

It's only Twitter talk right now, but the source is decent:

LOL. I just asked the question as I saw on nhlnumbers he was signed. I guess he must've accepted his qualifying offer?

CornKicker 07-16-2012 10:13 AM

if they cannot find another way to address back end toughness then i''d rather have teddy than not

CardMonkey83* 07-16-2012 10:22 AM

1.075M for head cheerleading job?!
This guy is a goof, nothing more than a chirpy weak team mascot
He will hinder our reputation more than enhance it

Bad, bad signing

as long as this doesn't mean that we aren't still pushing for another top 4 defender then I am fine with Teddy coming back. I wonder how Krueger will play him.

OilerTyler 07-16-2012 10:26 AM

He's better than Potter.

A depth player making a smidge over the league minimum for one year is hardly the worst thing ever.

Pennertration 07-16-2012 10:31 AM

How is this a bad signing? One year at next to nothing for a young defencemen who looked decent two seasons ago is not a bad move. He has a year to show if he belongs (maybe less than that if he's waived). Low risk, high reward. Worst case is he's gone in a year or less.

Too many people around here are more ticked that other D-men haven't been inked yet - and that's fine. But that doesn't mean this is a bad signing.

Petro Points 07-16-2012 10:34 AM

meh signing if true.

Hoping last year just an off year for him and he can show that he belongs in NHL.

2 yrs ago Peckham was on par with Smid in terms of effectiveness... Would be steal if he catches up with him again.

DerpMorg 07-16-2012 10:36 AM

He's sort of endeared himself to me because of that clip of him and his mom during an episode of Oil Change, but whatever. He needs to step up this year in a big, big way.

Ogopogo* 07-16-2012 10:37 AM

OKC just got a tough guy.

Agreed, and if he can return to potential form (5/6 defenseman with some emotion)

ales83fan 07-16-2012 10:37 AM

I remember two years ago when he was just destroying toews and Kane. I loved it

What does this mean? Or better yet what is your definition of depth player?

You have me interested. Do you think he's more than that, or less than that, then?

Turrican* 07-16-2012 10:51 AM

Let's see if he escalate his game like Smid did or remain in meh status.

Who would you like as a depth player? Shea Weber?

BowDangles 07-16-2012 10:52 AM

At the beginning of last year he was okay until that fight where he got his concussion, ever since than he was playing at a lot lower effectiveness level.

I hope Theo gets back to his year before last form and proves that he belongs in the NHL, even if the Oilers don't want to have him at least it will increase his trade value...

He destroyed Matt Duchene at the blueline as well.

thadd 07-16-2012 10:54 AM

Schultz
Petry
Whitney
Schultz
Smid
Sutton
Potter
Peckham

Really? 8 defensemen?

We got Schultz, Petry and Whitney. We don't need Potter on the PP anymore.
Peckham is slow and hasn't done anything in terms of development over the last year. I'd take Sutton over him.

I don't see why we've got 8 d-men... I kinda think there's a trade in the works... weird... really didn't think that we'd see Peckham get resigned. Makes no sense at all.

Edmonton Oilers ‏@NHL_Oilers
#Oilers have signed Theo Peckham to a new 1-year contract worth $1.075M. Details to follow.

Looks like it's official.

Calgary Oilers 07-16-2012 10:58 AM

This news is so much better than all the lockout talk.
I really hope that Peckham "gets it" soon so the team can fill a need from within.

CanadianCommie 07-16-2012 11:00 AM

I hope he has a rebound year. two seasons ago he played very solid and consistent hockey.
