You better be joking.

KesselLooksLikeRadar* 07-18-2012 11:56 PM

I feel so sorry for you guys... I really do.

Top 6 Spaling 07-18-2012 11:56 PM

it's a confirmed account, but no one else is talking about it. Hacked or real?

mhiggins27 07-18-2012 11:56 PM

Preds will match it. It's only a $7.1 million cap hit.

EastonBlues22 07-18-2012 11:56 PM

He's not joking, but the "to Philly" is a bit premature. Nashville can match, and I expect that they will.

DBU 07-18-2012 11:57 PM

Ugh, I feel bad for you guys. This offseason has been brutal to watch for the Preds as an outsider.

I fully expect Poile to match it though.

Predsboro 07-18-2012 11:57 PM

love the OP saying "to Philly." Apparently someone doesn't understand the offer sheet process ...

MJB Devils23* 07-18-2012 11:58 PM

That's an awful lot of money and years. Do you guys think you'll match?

Asher 07-18-2012 11:59 PM

Assuming they're serious about keeping this is good news for the Preds. They match, he stays.

I was a little pre-occupied to worry about terminology. My apologies.

goblinmedics 07-18-2012 11:59 PM

Well, I guess you guys get to match and keep him for the rest of his career now.

Or trade as you see fit.

Top 6 Spaling 07-19-2012 12:00 AM

If he wants out, do we want him here. Thats the question.

kypredsfan 07-19-2012 12:01 AM

I'm not worried now, I thought the OP meant he was for sure gone. We got 7 days to match this. Philly just made Poile's job easy.

the offer sheet is often used a leverage ... doesn't necessarily mean he wants out. If he definitely wanted out he'd sign his one year tender to make it to free agency next season.

If Nashville stands behind "we'll match any offer sheet," as stated above, Poile's job is easy. Match it and Shea finishes his career in Nashville ... (unless he's traded down the road)

Kershaw 07-19-2012 12:04 AM

Don't make that mistake again Poille.

Stevens, Suter... Weber.

Credit to @DarrenDreger, the story is true. I thought it would be Philly or Vancouver.

I think Poile matches. Still, I am not happy with Shea right now.

mhiggins27 07-19-2012 12:06 AM

I'm not a Preds fan by any means, but I'd like to know the fans thought on this: Do you think Nashville may actually be better off taking the compensation of four 1st round picks? Considering he signed an offer sheet, Weber may not be as loyal to Nashville as some may think, and four 1st round picks is a lot of value.

Do you not comprehend that Weber has basically given the preds the middle finger? By signing this contract, not only does that prohibit us from trading him for a package we want, but it means our captain doesn't want to be in Nashville. Not only that, but if we match, we aren't allowed to trade him for an entire year as per the current CBA and I don't see that changing in the next one. Why would we want to match an offer that obviously suggests Weber doesn't want to stay here? Before anyone comes up with a dumber idea about Weber maybe wanting Poile to match this, he would've signed a contract in the first place.

This was the absolute worst case scenario.

the way I look at it Poile has to match ... four 1st rounders from Philly aren't early picks unless they just crash badly over the next few years ...

according to Dreger though, Poile was working to trade Weber

100% agreed except for the last line. A 1 year offer sheet would be worse.

Eh, everybody follows the money. Sakic signed an offer sheet with the Rangers. The Avs were happy to take him back.

Exactly...which proves he wants out. So before anyone tries to say "Weber wants Poile to match!", Poile wouldn't have been trying to trade him if Weber wanted to stay.

Four 1sts in the 20-30 range isn't all that great considering the other option is to have a multiple Norris-nominated defenseman locked up for life.
